(CNN) - A trio of Missouri surrogates for Mitt Romney took aim at Rick Santorum on Tuesday, saying the former Pennsylvania senator has misled voters on his fiscal conservative record.
"He certainly has been outspoken on social issues, and we honor his record in that regard. But when you get outside those issues…his record shows he's been in the liberal wing of the Republican Party," former Sen. Jim Talent said on a call with reporters.
Washington (CNN) - As Mitt Romney faces a newly energized Rick Santorum, the super PAC supporting Romney, Restore Our Future, is weighing in this week with a major ad buy of more than $1.5 million, the group told CNN Tuesday.
Besides the $640,000 in additional ad time it bought in the key battleground of Michigan, which CNN reported Monday, the group also purchased an additional $121,000 in Arizona. Santorum has vowed to campaign aggressively in Michigan and in Arizona both of which vote in two weeks on Feb. 28th.
(CNN) - A large gender gap appears to be developing between supporters of GOP presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, as well as a split between white collar and blue collar Republicans, according to a new national survey.
A CNN/ORC International poll also indicates that Santorum supporters are much more highly motivated than those backing Romney.
Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama stepped up his push Tuesday to get Congress to extend the payroll tax cut for the rest of the year, arguing that a failure to do so could derail the economic recovery.
"This is a make-or-break moment for the middle class," Obama said at the White House. "The last thing we need is for Washington to stand in the way of America's comeback."
(CNN) – Though better associated with another state beginning with 'M,' Mitt Romney wants the Republican voters of Michigan to know he is one of them.
He was born in and grew up in the state, and it's the message behind a new campaign television advertisement and op-ed, which was published in Tuesday's The Detroit News. "Michigan has been my home and this is personal," he says in the ad.
(CNN) - Rick Santorum's Republican presidential campaign says it's going up with two new TV commercials in Michigan.
The campaign confirms to CNN that the spots, both positive in nature, will run statewide starting Tuesday. The move comes one day after a new poll indicated that the former senator from Pennsylvania was surging in the state, and as an independent super PAC that supports former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney announced that it was buying $640,000 in ad time in the state. Restore Our Future has already spent a quarter of a million dollars to run TV commercials in Michigan. And the Romney campaign announced Tuesday they were going up with a new spot that touts the candidate's Michigan roots.
