Season finale? How debates have become the ultimate 'event' TV

Mesa, Arizona (CNN) - It's been 26 days since the candidates left the stage at the last CNN debate in Jacksonville, Florida, and the growling hunger pangs of the media have grown louder even as the candidates grow weary.

There have been 19 Republican presidential debates so far, and while some may have debate fatigue - including a few candidates - the forums have nevertheless proved to be illuminating experiences. They have garnered sky-high TV ratings and have become "event" television. They have helped to define several candidates while others fall from grace in front of the live cameras.

These debates should have been broadcasted on Comedy Central. All of these GOBP candidates are a joke.

The debates have been good. Haven't seen this much exciting 60 second bouts of combat between two individuals since Mike Tyson was knocking folks out for a living.

The only thing these so-called debates have illuminated is the lack of debating, and problem-solving skills by these candidates. Oh, and their robust hatred of all things Obama.
In regards to high viewer ratings and numbers...yeah, right. The cancellations speak for themselves don't they?

I never thought I would see the day when the entire republican party has gone nuts, but it has happened. In order to get the nomination of the right wingnut party, you have to be anti senior citizen, anti minorities, anti worker, anti poor people, anti veteran, anti consumer, anti environment, anti union, anti education, anti government agency, anti green energy, anti science, anti women, anti middle class, and anti uninsured.

Whoa, there. Please don't go into confabulation on me. We need your insights. The debates were must see TV.

Did you forget about the SNL reality character known as Rick Perry?
Did you forget about the broken record candidate, Herman "9-9-9" Cain?
Did you forget about Michelle Bachmann staring at the robotic camera guy, instead of the camera lens?
Did you forget about Tim Pawlenty showing his stripes on national television?
Did you forget about John Huntsman not having a staff who could spell his name, as "Jon"?

Illuminating experiences huh? Well I don't feel enlightened. These candidates dumbed down the republican electorate more than it already is. Which brings me back to Ayatollah Santorum and his stance on home schooling. As if the country wasn't dumb enough already.

Ultimate event? Are you kidding me? By whose standards?
I would rather sit in my backyard watching grass grow than to waste one nano second listening to these lying imbeciles.
You get more illumination from June bugs
And the teapublikans here say that the media is against the rethugs? All delusional!!

Very disgusting. Folks, do not watch all these BS. Instead, rent a nice James Bond movie, and order a pizza from Pizza Hut, and enjoy. These crabs are nothing but junk....I mean JUNK. Enjoy. Vote for Direct Democratic Ticket.

I look forward to the demise of the republican party in the United States. I think we will see several new parties coming out of the ashes. Look for the new GOP to be called : The Marijuana Party, or the Meth and Mountain Dew Party, or The Guns for Jesus Party, or The We Don't Need No Education Nohow Party.

You know, Wire... the EXACT same thing was being said by those on the left after the 2008 election. And then came the 2010 election. And you say............????

The reason why there has been sky high TV ratings during all through endless number of debates, is quite simple: ENTERTAIMENT and in the end no one gained anything. By the way who hates to watch any entertainment? None.

Lady Fair – in 2010 you right wingnuts were only running to destroy a black president. In 2012, based on your attacks on Americans the last two years, you are now running against 160 million workers, seniors on social security, women's rights, veterans, 50 million uninsured, the poor, minorities, college students, and every environmentalist.

2008? No, they didn't. The left was busy celebrating in 2008. No, it wasn't apparent that the Republican Party is an endangered species until, ironically enough, after the 2010 elections in the spring and summer of 2011. Republicans came into 2011 having lied to the electorate on the issues, and broke all of their campaign promises. When the GOTP hatched a field of candidates that lacked anyone with substance, then the death spiral of the Republican Party became blatantly obvious. In retrospect, we should have seen it coming. All of the obvious warning signs have been there since Newt's Contract With America.

Rick Santorum is the anti-gay, anti-abortion anti-womyn, anti-science. Who is running on these social issues. Never mind health reform or jobs. Or anything important or non-discriminatory, for that matter.
