Santorum goes after Romney in Michigan TV ad

Washington (CNN) – Rick Santorum aired another TV ad in Michigan Thursday, continuing to criticize his biggest GOP competitor, Michigan native Mitt Romney.

This ad titled "Say What," took a serious tone highlighting times when Mitt Romney has spoken against conservative values, which Santorum highlights as his own strengths.

Last week, Santorum aired an ad in Michigan titled "Rambo" which featured a Romney-look-alike actor shooting a mud-gun at Rick Santorum cardboard cut-outs.

The ad released Thursday has no narrator and the only audio is serious background music. A series of written-text Romney quotes and criticisms cross the screen instead.

Most of the Romney quotes focus on social issues, key to Santorum's campaign.

In a debate at Suffolk University, October 29, 2002 Romney said "I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose" writes the ad. "Romney also professed support for state funding of abortions for low income women, (The Boston Globe)."

The ad continues with criticism on Romney requesting millions in earmarks and continued hits that suggest "Romneycare was Blueprint for Obamacare (RushLimbaugh.com)."

The former Pennsylvania Senator has set his sights on winning the Michigan primary next week. Polls are showing that the two candidates are consistently within a few percentage points of each other in the state, meaning the negative ads will only continue as primary day arrives.

"We figured we'd show people what Mitt Romney says about Mitt Romney," said Santorum's national communications director Hogan Gidley.

Meanwhile Mitt Romney's Michigan ads have focused on his family life and growing up in Michigan.

In response to the TV ad Mitt Romney's spokesman Ryan Williams told CNN, “Senator Santorum’s dishonest attack ad is a desperate attempt to distract from his long career in Washington and his decision to repeatedly increase the debt ceiling and his own pay. He will do and say anything to avoid a discussion about his votes for wasteful earmarks and his enthusiastic support of Arlen Specter, the liberal senator who cast the deciding vote for ObamaCare."

The Michigan primary is on Tuesday February 28.

Trusted by whom? What a pile of crap. He hates womens rights, gay people, contraception, etc.
He has not got a chance of ever being elected again to anything of any importance.

Going after Romney on social issues? Is that all Crusader Rick has? Look how effective going after him on fiscal issues was for Gingrich in SC. Were these guys slapped down and told not to do that anymore, because that seemed way more effective than the social issues debate. But then again, what do I know?

The republican party has managed to unite the right wingnuts, the extreme right wingnuts, and the American Taliban party. Of course that is at the expense of every other American.

I have not heard from right wingnuts if they think that a church related business should be allowed to build cars, and because of their religious status, they would be exempt from federal laws, like paying a minimum wage, auto safety regulations, or fuel economy standards.

  10. GOP = Greed Over People

"My team is the American people not the insiders in Washington and I'll fight for the people of America not special interests,"

Well, since the "team" was team shrub...

Finally, Mr. 1%, a member of the GOP publicly admits that King George the II's "reign of error" was indeed all about the "special interest" of big Oil.

And what about the 7600+ young Americans killed by fighting a war because another member of the elite 1% had a score to settle against a "mean man that wanted to hurt my daddy"?

Perhaps Mr. 1% would like to explain why his 5 able bodied sons and their $100 million trust fund were spared being bothered by the heat and sand, not to mention flying bullets?

Oh wait, that is why Mr. 1% has the other 99%'s children, so THEY can be used as cannon fodder.

Elect Romney at your children's peril, Middle America.

So far, we have learned that republicans do not buy American cars, keep their money in American banks, support the foreign policy victories of the last three years, disapprove of ending the Iraq war, don't want women to have reproductive rights, are anti worker, prefer that American jobs be shipped overseas, seniors should not have social security and medicare, we should not fix our failing bridges and infrastructure, etc. Makes you want to join their attack on America doesn't it?

I honestly don't see how any Protestant could vote for Mr. Catholic Sanctimonious. In 2008, Ricky said that Satan was attacking America; his laundry list of proof was that after "the colleges" fell to Satan, the Protestant churches in this country fell.

So all you evangelicals out there, according to Ricky, you are all working for the devil.

"ESPECIALLY IN A PARTICULAR ETHNIC GROUP?"

One of the earlier comments was about this...

I suppose you think this is racest? IF there is a group more affected by poverty and happens to have a higher perentage of single parents...then wouldn't it be beneficial to work to improve conditions so one group or another is not more prone to poverty? Receiving government handouts will never get you out of poverty, but that seems to be the solution proposed by the left.

Handouts buy votes, but don't help the people affected.

Mitt Romney's five sons would be great as Military Joint Chiefs of Staff since they all avoided military service.

It would also save tax payers money keeping it all in the family.

Whether in ADS, speeches or debates, it is all just politics yet you would like to see something that instills trust, that you could put some faith in. Saber rattling, especially when Bush-Cheney have so vividly proven the futility and the drastic costs of war, just doesn’t do it; it gets attention but even Ron Paul clearly states that we just can’t afford another war. Then just always aggressively attacking, blaming and faulting Obama may satisfy those with their already formed biases but it gets old and disgusting quickly for everyone else. And lastly, the over use of the “I” pronoun may give the candidates satisfaction but without substance and specifics, only hype, it is all simply talk. It would seem that these debates are more aimed to impress the speakers themselves and those already firmly aligned, without ever giving the uncommitted and the independent much in reality.

Wow Fair you've outdone yourself in your unpatriotic hate for your country. Not only do you NOT support American industry, but you evidently seem to think that the AMERICAN WORKER isn't worth the fight to keep them employed. You must've been just THRILLED when jobs started being shipped overseas by the tens of thousands huh?

Where I come from, the words "conservative" and "trusted" are never associated with each other. "Conservative" is most often paired with a rude word for a nether part of the human anatomy ending in "hole".
