Susan B. Anthony List to run ads for Santorum

(CNN) - The Susan B. Anthony List, a major anti-abortion advocacy group, announced Thursday it was launching a new radio ad campaign for Rick Santorum.

The $150,000 ad buy will run in Michigan ahead of the state's primary on Tuesday.

"All the Republicans running for president have the will to win. But having the will to win is not enough," the ad's narrator says. "We need a president who has the will to change our country's direction."

The ad describes Santorum as the candidate best "dedicated to protecting our liberties, so no American is forced to pay for an abortion, no doctor is forced to perform one, and no pharmacist is required to distribute abortion inducing drugs."

Taking a shot at Mitt Romney, the ad says the former Massachusetts governor was "unwilling to sign" the group's "pro-life" pledge, unlike Santorum.

"For people who care about the right to life, Rick Santorum is the only candidate for president," the narrator says.

Santorum has long been a vocal opponent of abortion rights. The candidate has especially spoken out on the issue in recent weeks, blasting President Barack Obama over the contraception coverage controversy, as well as condemning the use of federal funds to cover prenatal tests, which he says lead to more abortions.

The former senator, however, faced questions Wednesday after a 1995 magazine interview resurfaced and gained wide traction for quoting Santorum saying he was "basically pro-choice" until he ran for Congress in 1990.

His campaign did not immediately respond to requests for clarification on the interview.

The Susan B. Anthony List announced it was endorsing Santorum on Friday, marking the first time the group has ever backed a candidate in the primary.

The spot will air on news, Christian, country, talk and sports stations in media markets statewide.

Are you convinced, yet? Do you still believe this "war against religion" that conservatives have re-ignited [ with the flap the dispute the Obama administration had with the Catholic church and health care provided contraceptives ] is really about freedom of religion? Can you see what right wing social engineering is trying to do to America? The 1st Amendment was written to protect us from people like Rick Santorum.

Gotta love the euphemism games these groups like to play. I.e. spinning infringements on women's reproductive rights as an expansion of liberty.

A fertilized egg is NOT a human baby. It's a fertilized egg. It's a microscopic glob of goo riddled with various proteins. It may one day become a human, but it is not a living human any more than a hair follicle is. Until the brain forms, there is no independent "self"; no thought, no feeling, nothing. Just mindless, soulless cells. Preventing them from becoming a human is no more murder than wearing a condom or abstinence.

Life does NOT begin at conception. There is zero scientific basis for claiming that it does. I really wish my fellow liberals would challenge these clowns on that point rather than avoiding it.

Nice. this is the same organization who went on record earlier this week in support of Virginia's invasive ultrasound assault on women. THAT ought to really help Santorum's chances in the general! Ha!

Why don't they take all that money and pay electrical bills, diapers, immunizations for the babies born into poverty instead.

I really question the group because it chose that name. Is there anything to say that the real Susan B. Anthony would have approved? She worked for the right of women to vote. I wonder if she was able to communicate now about the election and candidate, what would she say. What would she say about the use of her name for a clearly conservative cause that might roll back the protections that women have now?

I cry everytime I hear about this organization. I wonder what future generations will think of Susan B. Anthony, the woman who fought so hard so women could have rights only to have her name hijacked by this fringe group who wants to take us back to the time before we were allowed to vote.

  11. The GOP opens mouth and inserts foot

Wait - Susan B. Anthony fought FOR women's rights.

Now this group is fighting against them?

    They need a new name.

Conservatives will lose because, in their DESPERATION, they have resorted to a win at any price mindset [Lie, steal, cheat, malign, obscure, smear, mislead, misuse, etc.]. Susan B. anthonoy as the moniker of this group. Really? Did her estate actively grant permission to use her name, and therefore ALTER her memory, in such a way? If not, this GOP grooups activities are immoral and un ethical from their very start.

Since they like redefining things – maybe I should redefine evry person that is involved in the manufacture, production, shipment, sale, care of handguns an an ACCESSORY to the MURDERS that each gun helps to create. Clearly, if they had not done their part, the gun and ammo WOULD NOT have come together, in the hands of the assailant, to harm the victim, so they have contributed to his/her fate. This is far less of a stretch than claiming the rights of churches, doctors, pharmacists , etc., are being trampled on.

Ultimately, the GOP`s conservative arguements fail because they strain the limits of credibility. Nobody favors abortion but it is a private, and difficult, personal, INDIVIDUAL decision that Americans have the legal, ethical, moral & ecclesiastic right to make ON THEIR OWN. That will never change.
