Gingrich's $2.50 gas promise

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - Gas prices are on the rise, and so like clockwork, a cadre of politicians are now selling the promise of lower prices at the pump.

Newt Gingrich, struggling to regain momentum in the Republican presidential primary, is leading the way, promising to get prices down to $2.50 per gallon.

With republican deregulation we probably can each have our one oil well and refinery in our neighbor hoods or even better, get it for free from the leaking pipelines like they do in Nigeria.

Does he pump from his well in his backyard? I think we need to Nationalize all oil companies. They are playing with wall-street drama. Greed. Obama, please think of Nationalizing all the Oil Companies. OK.
PS: Nationalizing Oil Companies is a desperate need. Now let us do it.

ok Newt so you know gas prices are going up and you have the solution but ONLY if we elect you as president, huh? That sounds to me like the GOP plan of let the economy tank, do little about it until we take office in 2013. Meanwhile let us suffer since you have the secret solution for the rising gas prices. If people are gullible enough to believe this then you WILL be our next president, fortunately I don't think very many are. Ask Michelle Bachmann and her $2 a gallon promise and see how far that got her.

He's pulling your leg, folks. The US used to consume nearly half of the petroleum worldwide, before the rise of India and China as major economic forces. China has more than tripled its' consumption of petroleum based products since the late 1990s, while India has doubled. We are the mercy of world supply and global market prices.

The US has only 2% of the worlds petroleum deposits. If we could suddenly tap into all of that right now, and not import any foreign oil, we would run out in less than 10 years.

He is arrogant,.How he is goig to supply gas $2.50/gallon ?As economy is improving and world wide demand is increasing ,prices depend on supply and demand .It will take time to take out gas from north dekota and during Obama administration gas production is more .So lying to people is not going to work.

Oh please, if Gingrich had a plan, implementing it would be a sure way to get elected. Why wait? Oh yeah, because he has no plan.

But Newt... Rudy says we have high gas prices because we constructed the Trans-Alaska pipeline in the 70's. Did you clear this with him?

    ►Gingrich's $2.50 gas promise
Pah-Leeezzzzeee – is he kidding – and what is his premise???
A little over a month ago I paid $2.96 then something changed
Maybe – just maybe – it’s the “spectators” PRETENDING a crisis for that $$$$$ exchange!!!

This repeats itself every year around this time throughout the summer and then go down again around Labor Day – it’s a trend – ginGRINCH knows it – and all of the candidates, just what President Obama has predicted – will use this to try and gain in the polls… Come on now – MOST American voters are smarter than a 5th grader… Well, most are!!

(Shop at Kroger – select Home Sense products that are “Made in America” – And collect those “gas points” – You can save up to $1 per gallon!!!)

    Obama 2012!!

That can be accomplished through legislation, and regulation, only.

The United States and Canada produces 2% of the world's oil, we have little to no influence over oil prices.

Really, all he has done is point out how powerless presidents are to do anything about gas prices. As far as I'm concerned, he has just eliminated a means of criticizing the president, because if Gingrich can't do it, neither can Obama. Further blaming of gas prices on Obama just makes these candidates look foolish to me. And I'm a potential republican voter. But good god these candidates are awful. Worst in history, probably.

This clown will say anything and everything just to try and win an election. Funny how all the republican candidates always say that the economy will be better under them and gas prices will be no higher that 2.50 a gallon, BUT THEY NEVER TELL US HOW THEY WILL ACCOMPLISH THIS. And when you press them on it, they criticize the media.

It is either a dream or a lie. I don't think that he would offer subsidies to lower gas prices unless he could hid it really well. Cancelling the gas tax won't bring it down that much either.

If Newt could actually lower the gas prices, that would mean that the Kochs would not get their 60 cents a gallon, and that would hurt their $25 billion in actual profits. Newt is just playing a game with his ignorant base.

I wondered which liar would come up with the "vote for me and get cheap gas" first... When will people get it? Drilling here gives no guarantee of oil security or cheap prices. Oil is a world commodity and supplies are carefully cntrolled by oil cartels – like OPEC. A politician whoring-out to oil companies doesn't produce low prices – just less protection for consumers and the environment.

Gas is high now because Big Oil always drives prices up when if favors a Republican election. How many time will we need to see their control over prices to believe it's true? Any excuse is good enough – in this case fears of Iran even though the oil being sold now is already out of the ground. Real security will come in a long-range plan for renewable energy – carefully supported by less damaging fossil fuels like natural gas.

$2.50 per gallon, really? Michele Bachmann made the same promise last year to reduce the price of gas to $2.00 per gallon and she was mocked by the other GOP presidential candidates stating that her ideas were absurd. And, now they are promoting the same absurd ideas?

We're exporting more oil now than we are importing: why is that? Because the GOP, in it's infinite wisdom and a desire to break unions, signed free trade agreements that exported jobs out, as opposed to goods. Anything like a protective tariff, even if its designed to protect American industry and was part and parcel of the GOP for over a century, would be shot down by the oligarchs and their stooges on the caompaign trail as a job killer, yet they would allow gas prices to soar even as they make it even easier to ship refined oil products to China and India. Gotta love the economic circular firing squad the righties organized. The wonderful thing for them is that, as usual, they will blame Obama, as if we have had no bad decisions coming out the GOP for the last 3 decades: must be nice to compartmentalize your actions and policies from the human cost.
