Santorum says country needs contrast

Hixson, Tennessee (CNN) - GOP presidential hopeful Rick Santorum brought a crowd in Tennessee to its feet Saturday when he told them "true happiness comes from doing God's will in your life"

"True happiness comes from doing what you ought to do," he continued. "Real happiness is not doing whatever you want. In many ways it's self-sacrificial"

Santorum was the keynote speaker at the Chattanooga Tea Party Liberty Forum in Hixson, Tennessee.

"I love the tea party," Santorum said. He said the tea party is not only about politics, but about educating people to the "importance of a limited government.”

The former Pennsylvania senator credited the tea party with helping conservatives score big wins in the 2010 election cycle and with reminding the public about the U.S. Constitution.

"I carry a copy of the Constitution with me," he said. "But it wasn't talked about much until a certain group said 'Remember this?'"

Santorum said he also carries a copy of the Declaration of Independence because one without other is "like peanut butter without jelly, it doesn't work."

Santorum criticized President Barack Obama, telling the crowd the president does not see things the way people in Chattanooga do. Santorum said Obama wants government to be a neutral player when it comes to supporting marriage and families, and went on to accuse the current administration of dictating Americans' rights.

"Not rights given to you by God, no. President Obama isn't selling you those rights. He's telling you what rights he can create. And when government creates a right, they can take it away," Santorum said.

He added the country needs a Republican presidential candidate who can draw stark contrast to Barack Obama.

"Someone who is against government-run health care, someone who is against the Wall Street bailout, someone who is against the phony science of man-made global warning," Santorum said. "We had to eliminate carbon dioxide because it was a threat to the world. Tell a plant that."

Santorum, who said he plans on performing well on Super Tuesday, said the election is still very much in doubt.

"Super Tuesday is going to be a huge, huge day," he said. "You can set this country on a course where big things can happen after this election."

God's will is that he lie, slander Obama, and spread hate? Sounds more like Satan's will to me.

"I love the tea party", Rick said. I guess he would, it's a party that is trying to take away some of my personal liberties as a citizen of the United States of America. Does he really believe what he is saying or is he just pandering for votes. I find it all shameful. Rick you would not be President for just the tea party, remember that.

..."phony science of man-made global warning," Santorum said. "We had to eliminate carbon dioxide because it was a threat to the world. Tell a plant that."

That's why there's confusion on global warming. Some people just can't tell their 'Dioxides from their Monoxides.' Maybe Rick should study the issue before he begins to attack it.

You have to give some credit to Santorum, he looks fresh and sharp while Romney has spent millions of dollars and looks worn out and deflated and will never be able to go the distance.

This needs to stop! Separation of Church and State! I'm a Christian, but the GOP panders to the Christian right just for the vote. Otherwise, they could care less.

Santorum you have already made a big contrast between yourself and Obama. I have never understood what a "conservative" means until lately. You and your fellow GOPs are anti women, anti minority, anti college education, anti poor, anti sick, anti health, anti environment and anti gay and lesbian. What a contrast from Obama. What you are really missing is that white pillow case that you ought to put on. Now that would complete the contrast.
