Susan B. Anthony List pushes pro-Santorum ads in Ohio

(CNN) – The Susan B. Anthony List, a major anti-abortion advocacy group, will run a new set of radio ads for Rick Santorum in Ohio, the group announced Wednesday.

Focusing on economic issues, the $200,000 ad buy will air in the days leading up to the state's Super Tuesday primary on March 6.

"Who can we trust to protect our families, our freedoms, our faith-and our jobs?" the ad's narrator says. "Rick Santorum is a leader we can trust to put families first."

The group endorsed Santorum, an unapologetic social conservative, nearly two weeks ago, marking the first time the Susan B. Anthony List has ever backed a candidate in the GOP presidential primary.

Last week, the group spent $150,000 on a radio ad campaign for the candidate in Michigan, touting Santorum's vocal opposition on abortion issues.

The Ohio-based ads, however, take a more focused angle on jobs and the economy, in an apparent appeal to voters in the rust belt state.

"Only Rick Santorum has an economic plan centered on families," the narrator says. "(His) plan will balance the budget, triple the child tax exemption, end the marriage penalty and bring back the high-paying manufacturing jobs families depend on."

Recent polls show Santorum edging rival Mitt Romney in Ohio as the two are expected to battle it out in the state ahead of next week's primary.

The ad buy announcement on Wednesday came one day after Santorum placed second to Romney in Michigan's closely-watched primary.

But the Michigan contest wasn't a total loss for Santorum, as the latest CNN estimates show that both candidates picked up 15 delegates in the state.

"After last night's encouraging results, we are moving ahead to Super Tuesday, and the key Ohio primary, with even more energy," said Marilyn Musgrave, vice president for government affairs at Susan B. Anthony List.

I am SO glad that they stopped the Susan B Anthony coin because if not I would make sure not ONE of them would be in my possesion after they would support an idiot like Santorum for president.

"Rick Santorum is a leader we can trust to put families first." Translation:"Rick Santorum will make sure that Christian opinions and beliefs are forced upon as many people as possible."

What does anti abortion have to do with governing a country.......sure use economics as a cover, but their real goal is anti abortion. I bet not one on the "List" has adopted an unwanted child. When are women around this country going to get off their lazy asses and start standing up to these groups?

Idealistic and stupid way to spend their money. Santorum is unelectable. Getting him nominated would assure a second term for Obama, doing even more damage to the cause of this group...

What I don't understand is how this group hijacked the name of Susan B. Anthony for their anti-abortion agenda. She was born into a Quaker family and became an atheist, I doubt she had any "faith" as this group peddles.

It is difficult to believe anything Santorum says because President Obama is a SNOB and Jack Kennedy makes him "throw up." Santorum is irrelevant!!

If these anti-abortionists had their way, anyone who destroyed the leftover embryos from an in-vitro cycle would be prosecuted for murder (along with the technician who did the actual destruction), because they believe that life begins at conception.

This religiosity in American has GOT TO STOP!

    Vote the middle-ages loonies OUT!

The question about what he believes has become front and center since he complains about Kennedy and his "not speaking for the church" speech. He totally misses the point of the seperation of church and state. Does he not remember that there was an official state religion in England from where we rebelled from? The idea is that there is no official religion for the country, but there is also no barring those who belong to a religion from serving in government. I am sure that people like Perry would only have some Christian brand be in power; would Santorum go along with that?

Susan B is rolling aroung in her grave. She fought hard against Ricky Santorum types in her lifetime. These women know that.

  16. Please Grow Up

In 1875, Susan B. Anthony (who never married) made a strong statement about the social evil of prostitution, coupling her argument with a call for "equality in marriage." Although I could find no direct statements about birth control in her speeches or writings, it does seem paradoxical that the anti-abortionist movement should usurp her name.

she fought forwomens wages equivalent to those of male teachers, since men earned roughly four times more than women for the same duties. does this group realize how liberal she really was....?

It's my body keep the heck away from me! You're the ones who've kept so many women down for so long, and kept us from having equal rights under the law!
