(CNN) - Republicans are more excited to vote in the 2012 election than Democrats, according to a new survey.
The Gallup poll released Thursday showed 53% of registered Republicans and independents who lean toward the GOP are enthusiastic about casting ballots in November, compared with 45% of Democrats who said the same.

The new figures indicated a slight increase among Republican voters since a similar questionnaire in December.
Enthusiasm among the GOP has also grown since February 2008, when Sen. John McCain and former Gov. Mike Huckabee were competing for the presidential nomination. At that time fervor among Republican voters stood at 44% and at 79% for Democrats.
Gallup questioned 1,014 adults by telephone between February 16 and February 19 with a sampling error of plus or minus four percentage points.
