Fluke on Limbaugh comment: 'I'm not going to be silenced'

(CNN) - The Georgetown law student targeted by Rush Limbaugh for her position on contraceptives said Friday she was "upset and outraged" when she first heard the radio talk show host had called her a "slut."

"I felt probably the way many women do when they are called those types of names," Sandra Fluke told CNN. "Initially hurt and then very quickly upset and outraged because somebody is trying to silence you."

Fluke, who advocated last week in a Democratic hearing for the Obama policy requiring employers provide free contraception coverage, said she was sitting at a computer Wednesday when she read online that Limbaugh had personally attacked her during his radio show.

Calling her a "slut" and "prostitute," Limbaugh has said if taxpayers are going to pay for women to have sex, then they should post videos of their activities so everyone can watch.

His comments have sparked a firestorm in the last two days, with Democrats seizing on it as an opportunity to keep the political story alive.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support.

"That wasn't on my schedule for the day," Fluke joked, referring to Obama's call. "But I was happy to add that to the schedule."

The law student told CNN she thinks Limbaugh was "confused" about her testimony.

"For starters, I didn't say that I should be paid for anything. What we were talking about is private insurance covering a medical need. It has nothing to do with the government paying for anything or taxpayers or anything like that," she said.

While Fluke attends a Jesuit university that does not cover contraception as part of its health insurance plans, the school's president defended Fluke on Friday.

Religiously-affiliated institutions, like Georgetown, oppose providing contraception.

While some Republicans argue abstinence as the best form of birth control, Fluke said legislation needs to be realistic.

"We're talking about national legislation. Legislation has to reflect reality, not ideology and I don't think that we can actually expect that American women are going to stop engaging in healthy sexual behaviors," Fluke said.

But the law student said women are not going to be "silenced" about the issue.

"They're going to speak up for health care needs and what this means to them and I'm certainly not going to be silenced," she said.

The statements that Rush made on this subject shows he is desperate and losing his mind. I am an immigrant from India and have great respect for USA and western view of life. This guy is a disgrace to western civilization. In some aspects he does have a point or two but his demeanor is so cold and callous that he is probably a psychopath. The scarest part is his radio program has very high rating, shows that there quite a few people who are like him; scary, real scary.... check out my site: stateofmankind.net

If she is in college then her pills or what ever she thinks she needs for $3K is covered under the obama care until she is 26 and in school. Or was that a lie?

So she spent enough money on contraception to support three bonks per day over the course of three years. What should we call that? As usual, Rush is right – sorry that you flaming libs don't like to hear that!

It may be inappropriate to call this young woman names, but what is a girl going to a Catholic college doing using birth control in the first place ? She is not even married. This does not conform to our beliefs and I would say that SHE is inappropriate to try to force a Catholic college into this behavior.

Shame on Liimbaugh, I agree. But this 30 year old woman is being used by liberals. Women are being used in a political fight that is taking us down the slipery slope of dependency on the government. Republicans and independents are falling into a huge trap set by progressives. They are using women like a blunt instrument to hit the rest of us over the head. The fundamental question do we all need to pay to support this woman's social lifestyle? it is just not fair; obamacare is not fair.

publicrelations@clearchannel.com That's the email address for Limbaugh's employer. Does he have a first amendment right to make his vile comments? Absolutely? Do we have a first amendment right to complain? Absolutely. Does the government even need to be involved? Absolutely not. I hope everyone who is even remotely offended by Limbaugh's comments contacts Clear Channel Communications and registers a complaint.

I'm liberal, but I prefer abstinance, too, honestly. Could you please stop calling us names? Please? *really just wants liberals and conservatives to try getting along*
I wouldn't agree with the comment above me (about him being the face of republicans) because I've met a number of rather friendly, sensible Republicans, who agree to disagree and compromise with Democrats.
Just because people can't get along on TV, that shouldn't mean we let that get in the way of kindness and compromise...

  20. ObamaSocialistwhatsthe difference

Limbaugh went of the deep end. Fluke also embelishes. Limbaugh was the voice of concervative right, but the majority of the media is the voice of the left. At one point the right did have the majority and screwed things up. Now the left has the majority and is screwing things up.
One MAJOR Difference, When lefties get caught lying, the rest stand up for the lie and says everyone else does it. When the right is caught screwing up the right does turn away from the wrong doer.
Summation: Can a lefty stand by and allow for a wrong to be done simplyty because they are left? One case Weiner. Weiner can get his job back in a few weeks. The left of America will stay corrupt.

What a joke. What year is this 1912? I am going to personally ask Chrissie Hynde to stop Limbaugh from using My City Was Gone as his talk show theme. He has gone way too far.

You don't have to be silent. You just have to pay for your own birth control, just like the men have to pay for their own condoms. Its not the taxpayers responsibility. Stay in school stupid libtard.
