Ohio poll: Obama edging up but still under 50%

(CNN) - President's Barack Obama's approval rating is edging up in a crucial battleground state, according to a new poll.

The University of Cincinnati's latest Ohio Poll, released Friday, indicates that 47% of Ohio residents approve of the job the president's doing, with 49% saying they disapprove of how Obama's handling his duties.

The president's approval rating in Ohio stood at 43%, with 50% disapproving last July, according to the survey.

It's the same divide among the smaller pool of just registered voters in the Buckeye State, with 48% approving and 49% giving Obama a thumbs down.

According to the survey, just 43% approve of the job Obama's doing on the economy, with 49% giving him a thumbs up on how he's handling foreign affairs.

Ohio's 18 electoral votes are expected to be pivotal to the 2012 presidential election. President George W. Bush sealed his 2004 re-election by narrowly winning the state over the Democratic challenger, Sen. John Kerry. In 2008 then-Sen. Obama took the state by 5 points over Sen. John McCain. But the GOP won big in the state in the 2010 midterm elections, taking back the governor's office and five House seats held by Democrats.

The University of Cincinnati's Ohio Poll was conducted between February 16 and February 26, with 1,514 Ohio adults questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

After the end around run their Republican governer tried to pull on the residents of Ohio, you would think they would be more supportive of a Democrat. But, the poll merely asks if they approve of what the President is doing. Clearly, the voters think that he could be doing some things better. I would like to know what.

Don't worry ya'all! I'll be hitting Ohio nonstop with the greatest smoke and mirrors show on the planet and the sheep of Ohio will follow ol' Barack down the road to Hope and Change. I just wish they wouldn't be paying so much attention to what is really going on like they do in the braindead Blue states. It's costing me a fortune in smoke. Well, gotta run to my 120th fund raiser! Chow baby!

After only a few days of campaigning from the GOP field in Ohio, the President looks a lot better by contrast.

Give the Ohio voters a few months to ponder the inevitable GOP nominee Romney, and it's possible that the President's approval might approach 100%.

First one to say "they didn't poll me" gets a cookie. If you include "they don't call cell phones", you also get a small glass of milk for dunking.

1 out of 8 jobs in Ohio arr in the auto industry. Once the people are educated about who saved their job, the polls will change. When they look at the alternative candidate and educate themselves on what thhey intended on doing back in 2008, the choice will be that much easier to make.

President Obama will win Ohio when voters recognize the GOP/Tea Party nominee is for the the Wall Street 1% haves and not the 99% of hard working Americans. Moderates and independents will reject the extreme social conservative Tea Party agenda of the GOP.

Hasn't Obama also visited Ohio about a thousands times as well??? Maybe the more they see and hear him, the less they like what they see and hear?!

But what is truly shocking about this poll is that 47% of the people in Ohio are clueless or braindead.

One thing I know is this, if the Repubs don't win in Ohio, they won't win the election. Proven fact, no Repub President-Elect has won the WH w/o Ohio. If Mitts can't carry Ohio, he will be another footnote in history!

I was borned and raised in the great Buckeye State and we are hard working honest people who remember the days of GWB and the soup lines. Our parents would turn over in their graves knowing we voted and supported the same Republican party that took away retirements and jobs and never looked back except to ask for a vote. Never again.

The best way obama can stiulate the economy, is to first spend his Billion dollar campaign war chest ... and, then to get kicked out of the White House.

Even with the bully pulpit ... the mainstream media in his pocket ... and a Billion dollar reelection war chest ... this corrupt fool can't seal the deal ... apparently, more and more Americans are getting wise to how he's picking our pockets, and revoking our rights and freedoms. My fellow Americans ... don't give this liar and thief another term, or we're all doomed !!!

Hey Dutchie – how do you know those 1 in 8 aren't already included in the "approve" column? 1 in 8 is only 12.5% after all, so with 47% approving, it's certainly not a stretch. I know, I know... darn that fact-supporting math, huh?

Sorry – after what they did to Juan Williams, who by all accounts is a fine and decent man, NPR has absolutely no credibility whatsoever. You can choose to be deluded if you wish, though.

Yeah, they have great round table political discussions where 3-4 liberals debate the issues and discuss "the truth". They just wouldn't want anything like common sense or reality to intrude on "the truth" by balancing it with two conservatives.

    WAKE UP! You're being brainwashed!

It certainly isn't good news for your boy Willard. He barely won the delgate count in Michigan. I'm not to sure that his campaign didn't bribe someone. Anyhow, if he had a hard time winning in Michigan, what makes you think it'll be any easier in Ohio?
