Santorum calls Limbaugh comments 'absurd'

(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled Rush Limbaugh "absurd" over disparaging remarks from the radio talk show host directed at a law student who testified before a House panel in support of access to contraceptives.

"He's being absurd, but that's you know, an entertainer can be absurd," Santorum told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Friday. "He's in a very different business than I am."

The former Pennsylvania senator said he is instead concerned about the government's involvement in people's personal lives.

"I'm concerned about the public policy of this president imposing his values on people, people of faith who morally object to the government telling them they have to do something, which they believe is a grave moral wrong," Santorum, a Catholic, said in an interview on CNN's "The Situation Room."

The political message war heated up after the Obama administration released a policy requiring health insurers to provide contraception coverage, even for those plans offered by religious-affiliated organizations that oppose birth control on moral grounds. The Senate defeated a GOP measure Thursday that would overturn the administration's rule.

Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke testified last week before the House on behalf of reproductive rights and became the target of critical comments from Limbaugh. He called her a "slut" and "prostitute" and said if the government is forced to pay for contraceptives, than he would like women to post videos of their activities so everyone can watch.

Limbaugh was criticized by members of both parties in Congress. House Speaker John Boehner said the comments were "inappropriate" after House Democrats sent a letter to the top Republican urging him to condemn the statements. The letter had 80 signatures as of Friday afternoon.

I would like to know how this is getting into peoples personal lives? Its required to be offered by insurance co's, but not required to be taken by people. Its just an option for them. Sounds like more GOP crap to me.

Absurd? And Boehner called it inappropriate? How 'tame' can you be?

Why not call it what it is? Hateful? Unacceptable? Outright lies and he should be taken off the air? The GOP no longer wishes for Limbaugh to speak for them because he's an utter embarrassment?

Rick you know you agree with everything Limbaugh said but you have to say you don't. You certainly aren't fooling anyone...I don't think?
