Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

Limbo just needs a visit from a capable sniper... so that True Conservatives that actually have intelligent thought patterns can use the airwaves he pollutes. He is not better than the Al Sharpton's and Reverend Jesse Jackson's of the world... Simply getting rich on the same concept of pandering to people that need a helping hand from Human Evolution.

His sponsors must have come down hard on him. No other way to explain his apology.

After 3 days of insults he kind of apologizes. I do not believe he is apologizing because of the insults, he is apologizing because his advertisers are cutting him off. To Rush, it is all about the ratings.
Come on and think about it, for 3 days nothing but degrading insults directed at Fluke and women in general, not one day, not two days – 3 DAYS!. It that was my child he directed those lies at – Law suit, and perhaps that is what really happened – a "liberal" lawyer might been talking to Fluke and Rush got word of it. In 10-15 years, this world is going to be a lot better place to live in for people like Rush and that arizona sheriff joe arpaio will be too old to matter anymore along with the people who support them. Amen.

He only apologized because he lost some sponsors for his show. That's the only place republicans care about, the pocket-book!

Ain't buying the sincerity of his apology. Limbaugh worships the dollar and is apologizing only because advertiser started to pull commercials from his show. Sack'em.

And sometime, his hatred made him behave so stupidly that he might have unintentionally helped Dems and others whom he hated. (like the case here.)

hit Rush in the wallet and he'll say he's sorry. Some companies pulled their ads from his program and the hits just keep on coming. Is the apology sincere? Sorry but I doubt it!

Sure. It was Rush's idea of comedy. I'd love to run into him and his wife at a function and loudly return the favor addressed to her. I believe the only reason for his half -wit apology is the sponsors he's lost. If he loses a few more, it might make him actually start to use the lump of meat commonly referred to as a brain.

" I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

Sorry Rush, yes you did! 1) Because she is a woman, 2) Because she doesn't believe what you do and 3) Because you are a self centered mean person.

It is far past time for Limbaugh and hannity to be removed from the airwaves and from the national scene. They both have long overstayed their welcome. They both no longer serve either purpose or provide anything to the discussion. They perpeptuate only hate and lies meant to ignite the worst among us. They offer nothing and they are a national disgrace. They make millions upon millions doing nothing but blasting their endless drone of garbage. The nation has moved on.
