Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

This guy does not make any sense at all. I don't care to listen to him but his intellectually castrated remarks are loath full. Due to the demented comments he makes like LRA killers being christians I have to submit I think he has snails and the like in his brain. It would be better if he had a demented brain but....

His "choice of words" consistently stem from the angle of "shock and awe": NO substance, NO empirical fact, NO logical basis! He is an entertainer for the uncritical and the weak-minded!! He is NOT educated enough to be considered a legitimate and respectable political critic. It is not surprising that this intellectual imbecile feels compelled to attack those far more superior in grey matter, because at the end of the day, that is all he has to show for his existence. May Karma bless him with the same hate-filled, fate as Mr. Brietbart.

When is the Republican party going to stop elevating and celebrating raw ignorance and small mindedness? Rush Limbaugh, with only a high school education, has been elevated to the position of master economist, law expert, sociologist, environmentalist and now, reproductive health expert. Rush Limbaugh has tremendous influence over politicians and GOP policy making. He has the party by the short hairs. How is it that a high school educated drug-fried scream-talker is elevated to such an unofficial, but very real, high position within the GOP? Does ANYONE in the GOP understand that EVERYTHING that comes out of Limbaugh's mouth is motivated by money. Rush LImbaugh knows that the more outrageous he is, the more 'outraged' he appears, the more $$$$ he will make. He is laughing all the way to bank when he gets attention like this.

The GOP, if it is to restore ANY respect to the party, needs to publicly loudly and repeatedly tar and feather Rush Limbaugh.

Mitt Romney needs to be asked – "So since you didn't like Rush's word choice, what words would you have used?"

Bill O'Reilly needs to be asked – "Following Rush's apology, what say you?"

That's what an apology sounds like when your arm is getting twisted. He did not mean it, he and his sponsors should be boycotted until he's fired. Rush needs a show on satellite radio where he can feel at home and say all the trash he wants.

It's ok Rush, everyone knows it wasn't a personal remark- but a remark about the concept in general – apology not required. Seems you have become the father figure to the nation, of a bunch of whiny crybaby's who throw a tantrum- when they get some unfavorable words- because of they're absurd morality. I don't think there is a person, that thinks it was anything personal- just an excuse the complain as usual.

He is only apologizing to stop his advertisers from leaving. Typical right wing approach. Say what you want then apologize like you mean it and move on. I think America has finally grown tired of A-h0les like Rush.

THIS IS NOT A REAL APOLOGY

(1.) – A real apology does not include petty excuses and political spin. It is unconditional.
(2.) – A real apology does not include accusations and finger-pointing. It is a statement of self-examination and correction.
(3.) – A real apology does not spit more poison or fire. It focuses only on the healing process.
(4.) – A real apology is not weighed down by unhealthy pride. Its heartfelt purity is communicated with humility.

He forgot to mention that these comments were just the ramblings of a woman hating, grandiose, drug using, moron. And he should also be sure to say "you're welcome" to the democratic national campaign of 2012.

He's lying. The loss of all the advertisement revenue is driving his phony apology. He's a cold hearted snake.

This man apologized for dehumanizing a young woman not because he feels remorse for his actions but rather because he lost income. This is the ONLY way to deal with him and others like him. Thanks to the advertisers who pulled out. We hope that they will keep their money where their mouth is and make this a permanent lesson. He’s been a divisive and detrimental force on the good people of our nation for far too long.

Also, it is curious he was still going on and on Friday after all the outrage. It wasn't until companies pulled their advertisements that he has reconsidered. Proof once again he only cares about money.

Mr. Limbaugh ought to repeat the apology as much as he did the original insult. Given his run-in with the law over his Viagra scandal and the four marriages in his past, he's throwing stones in his own glass house when he dares to comment on someone else's romantic life.
