Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

It is not enough....he should be taken off the air for all his hateful comments, negative and disparaging remarks. He is not funny, and I am sad for those who think he is. I hope advertisers pull advertisements from his show. I am truly disgusted by his comments, his apology does not seem genuine to me.

What disgusting comments from this so called commentator. There was no way his comments were meant to be humorous.
Rush, it's time for you to go. You need a different type of pill this time.

The reason he "apologized" is obvious; advertisers started pulling their ads, which impacted his considerable net worth. If he truly felt sorry, he would not have re

Sounds familiar doesn't it, first you do the damage and then you apologize. How many times have the Republicans resorted to this strategy? No Mr. Limbaugh, your attempt was not to be humorous because but rather to smear, besides you are not a funny man. You don't understand how birth control really works, and you are so loud in order to cover your lack of intelligence.
GOP: The party of the pathetic.

Too little, too late, Rush. This lame apology is merely a cry to try and regain lost sponsors. We don't believe you, Rush. Try again.

He wasn't being humorous and I don't think anyone took it as that. He needs to step down and
retire. His apology was not an apology, but a continuance of his bad behavior. I hope all withdraw
their advertising and that women make sure that they and their male counterparts turn off the radio.

For Rush Limbaugh to use lies to apologize to Ms. Fluke, and only after multiple advertizers pulled their ads, is almost as sickening as his first double rant.

Limbaugh has a long and storied history of going on rabid and offensive rants...then issuing "an apology" (to appease his sponsors, no doubt.) He represents the lowest common denominator in our country. I consider his actions beyond forgiveness, especially because of his track record. Just go away, you rude and ignorant thing.

    This, too:
Limbaugh began his career in radio as a teenager in 1967 in his hometown of Cape Girardeau, using the name Rusty Sharpe. Limbaugh graduated from Cape Girardeau, Missouri Central High School, in 1969. Because of his parents' desire to see him attend college, he enrolled in Southeast Missouri State University but left the school after two semesters and one summer. According to his mother, "he flunked everything", and "he just didn't seem interested in anything except radio."

Limbaugh was not drafted during the Vietnam War draft lottery, as his birth date's high rank (152) was well above the 125 rank below which service members were drafted. He was classified as "1-Y" (later reclassified "4-F") due to a Pilonidal cyst.

Good move for him to realize his error. Now if only she has the class to apologize for misleading us. She is a 30 year old women's "activist" who enrolled at a a Catholic school to stir up trouble. Pelosi and Obama shamelessly marched her in front of the cameras to endorse their agenda.

weak, very weak Rush. You are still a disgusting slug. I for one am tired of people running at the mouth and they say I am sorry, when they don't really mean it. What have we become, Animals on the farm have more respect for each other, than do humans. It is shameful. I have just changed party lines, I am very tired of GOP. Back in the day that had class and respect, today they have none.

An apology like does not mean he is sorry at all. Before he even said the insulting word,
he likely knew an apology would be called for. He got to say what he wanted, and then gave
    the expected reponse, an apology.
There have many "apologies" made by different people for saying terrible things. It's all part
    of the routine.

Limbaugh should lose his job for his repeatedly unacceptable behavior. An apology is not enough. He has done his shock-jock / responsible citizen flip too many times now. A similar outburst followed by an apology is bound to follow.

Shameful, slanderous, unintelligent psyco-babble that serves no useful purpose. Rush Limbaugh deserves to be fired immediately and sued for defamation of Ms. Fluke's character.

I find it extraordinary that Rush Limbaugh thinks that that was an apology! I find his action to be atrocious, and I think the entertainment of a lawsuit should be fully engaged I feel that that may be the only way to stem what appears to be uncontrolled, slanderous, character destroying can be abridged!
