(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.
“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.
"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."
His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.
President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."
But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.
In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”
But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”
“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

Where is her apology for misrepresenting herself as a naive law student who can't afford the pill instead of what she is... A political shark in DC with political buddies, president of Georgetown chapter of Law Students for Reproductive Justice, a natuonal organization that lobbies for free birth control, and holding degrees in "feminist & gender studies" and "policy analysis.". Oh, yeah, naive law student... Not.
What a disqusting gas-bag. Just a rude, crass, crude defacto speaker for the modern Republikkan party.
"“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”" said Limbaugh.
And in my mind I heard him say; Any of the other stuff I have already gotten away with, I still mean it so don't bother trying to get me to behave like a moral, social human."
Humorous? Red Skelton was humorous. Lucille Ball was humorous. Milton Berle was humorous. Charlie Chaplin was humorous. Mr. Limbaugh knew what he was doing and knew it was not humorous.
We are NOT amused.
"I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke." C'mon Rush. That is exactly what you meant to do. To all you ditto-heads out there, how does it feel that your icon, that man you regard as your political – even spiritual – mentor, regards what he does as absurdity?
HHAHAHHAHHAHHAA
Fat guy in a little suit.
For many years, I've listened to few of Rush's rude comments and analogies of others. I'd always wished some body would stick one in his face for once. I hope he eat his rude comment this time for breakfast.
Limbaugh's expectation that this an apology and his supporters accepting it as such indicates he still is the same crude vile excuse for a human. His suggesting it was to be absurd/ humorous shows his lack of sensitivity and intolerance of women. Any company that supports him still or in the future supports his views tells me and the public they share his vile crude insensivity for women
Good for Rush. Now let's have apologies from Maher, the entire MSNBC cast, and all other leftist thugs for what they said about Palin and Bachmann.
What a punk.
As usual, Rush Limbaugh is a worthless pile of trash.
It's wrong for people to listen to Rush Limbaugh.
Aw poor Limbaugh suddenly is sorry once advertisers (dollars) start leaving his show.
the ideal GOP arrogant, big mouth, hateful, obnoxious MALE. He doesnt deserved to be called something he isn't. That would be a man.
He did not mean to use that word choice and he sincerely apologizes? That is ridiculous!
What can you expect from a pig but a grunt .
He meant every word until his wallet got hit. Baloney!!!!!
Limbaugh was trying to be humorous? If I call him an obese junkie who has no soul and preys on the weakest, least educated of the American public for his own financial benefit and to satisfy an empty ego that has no basis for existence because there's nothing about him that could even remotely be labeled admirable, am I being humorous? Limbaugh, on the other hand, IS humorous, or more precisely, laughable. He and his hordes of loyal pinheads would be funny if they weren't actively sabotaging the American Dream. How humorous is that?
Too little respect, too late and too insincere.
You are not sincere about your apology! Say it on air you idiot! Posting this on your web site instead of saying it shows me you don't have the balls to admit you are wrong! That's right you don't have the balls to say it on air!! You may have a following that bows down to you so you can keep your pay check (seems all you care about while God grant you another breath) but all I can say is you are an idiot! I'm proud NOT to be a follower of yours!.
Too little too late. Anyone listening to this man needs their heads examined. Taxpayers do NOT pay for insurance. The mandate is for insurance companies to provide coverage of people who need it weather it is a prescription for contraceptives or Viagra. I don't hear Rush complaining about taxpayers supporting that little item.
How many times does Rush have to say the wrong thing and do his crocodile tear apologies before FCC and the station owners realize he is no better than others that have been pulled off the air?
It's okay for Libs to call Republicans negative names, but if it happens to a Lib it's a national scandal? Double-standard much?
Rush – You're an IDIOT!!! Plain & simple.
I'm not a Democrat or Republican. It's truly frightening that there are many Americans that listen to you and hold on to every word you say as gospel.
Ah, it's amazing how sponsor dollars can make a big dog apologize.
