Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

It sounds like misguided anger. He has no republican candidate worthy of support, heck even qualified to support.. so he goes after innocent college students who are taking a stand in their future. Shame on you Mr. Limbad.

Rugh Limbaugh is just as unattractive inside as he is out. He fails to understand that women use some contraception for medical reasons. He is a disgrace. Why anyone listens to him is beyond me. Women will continue to call for a boycott of businesses that support his hate speech. Does he have any women in his life? Who could ever stand him!

He said more than enough for all of us to understand his apology is far from sincere. He is not commenting on the absurd, he is a hate-monger, pure and simple.

Baloney! Anyone who knows Rush knows he meant every word. Only when the advertisers for his radio program decided to pull out did he opt to add a bit of humility and humanity to his persona and apologize. This disengenuous thug is reaping what he has sown.

Limbaugh is either impotent who can't fertilize a woman or advocating Duggar style 17-18 children per woman. Either way he is no different from Taliban.

What he posted on was not an apology. No one in their right mind thought he was making an attempt to be humorous as he now claims. This is unacceptable. He must think that the rest of the country is on the same kind of drugs as him to believe that nonsense. Let the boycott of his sponsors continue.

Limbaugh's mea culpa certainly isn't genuine but rather he was taking heat from both the right and the left and losing mega advertising bucks for his stupid, ridiculous statement. This bum should be kicked off the airways, he is one dangerous creton and why the Republicans let him be their mouth piece is irresponsible and an afront to the people of America. Romneys comment that it wasn't language he would have used.....what a weasel and he is running for the Presidency of the USA? The Republicans are certainly scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Limbaugh, your so called apology and "attempt at humor" is not accepted by the public and we will boycott every sponsor you have until you are off the American airwaves. The only reason you are apologizing is you are losing sponsors. You see, you've done this for years and we are sick of it. If you think this is going to go away because you "apologized" whether Ms. Flukes accepts it or not, your are DEAD wrong.

Limbaugh should be sued along with his network and sponsors for the slanderous remarks made to a law sturent. He may have given Ms Fluke her first case. His apology has no sincerety, frankly; this is not the first time his crude and inappropriate comments have resulted in a firestorm of criticism. There is no humor in his comments, just viscious right wing crapola. Even those folks have to wince at the tripe. Those who follow him deserve him. Where are the values. His comments require more than an insincere apology. A 10 million dollar settlement would be more like it. I am sure Ms Fluke could use the money. I doubt it would put a dent in his ill gotten wealth due to the "STUPID".

Apologies or not, you long lost your credibility Mr Limbaugh.
The attack simply proved that you can't make a sensible response, no matter what extreme you go to

Well, this is certainly the most lame "apology" I have ever heard. He is an embarassment to America and would never have even "apologized" at all if he hadn't already lost five sponsors. I canno tunderstand how anyone would spend even a minute of their time listening to this bloated hypocrite!
