Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

He said it on three different days; he only made this "apology" because he's being threatened by his sponsors (i.e., it's a threat to his wallet).

If Limbaugh wants to convince people of his sincerity, then he'll not just pay lip-service, but truly make amends by changing his ways.

    Don't hold your breath ...

Apology NOT accepted. This is a forced apology and has all the sincerity of a burglar apologizing for robbing somebody after he's been caught. NOTHING Limbaugh could say or do could possibly make me think he genuinely regrets what he has been saying about this woman. This is a tongue-in-cheek apology and all of his loyal fans know it. The man is a pig.

curious, it seems painfully obvious that the man is not in the least repentent – that is, until activist groups started going after his sponsors. I wonder if this is going to be a gathering point for momentum to get this rabble rousing propagandist turd off the airwaves. Truth and accountability should be mandated when people are given access to the ability to mass broadcast their opinions on the same platforms where others seek to distribute facts...

Dude... Really... How about they stop covering ur prostate meds too... will white men please stop telling females what they can and can't do with there bodies. If a law was passed that all men over 40 had to get an ultrasound on their prostate them same as a women trying to get an abortion(10 inch probe) they would be upset. The GOP in Texas passed this type of law, as well as, other GOP states trying to force women not to have an abortion. GOP always talked about government not getting involved in peoples lives and less government influence. They contradict themselves. Rush, take your show to Iran. Your a coward behind a microphones.

In saying "not the language I would have used", is Mitt saying that he agrees with crude, degrading sentiment of Rush's rants, but would have selected other words? Can we honestly consider such a man as a viable potential President?

  16. vote the Tea Party OUT in 2012

you ever notice when right wingers such as Santorum and now Rush wind up saying something really STUPID then have to backtrack on it or even apologize for it they always claim that they have "such as PASSION for that subject they just get carried away"? Well I say HORSE HOCKEY!! What really happens is that the public outcry against whatever they did so said is so ferocious that they HAVE to retract it. Thing is they really DID mean it passion aside. Like Santorum trying to walk back his Obama snob comments and JFK bark comments, Rush's apology is hollow at best and only due to so many attacking them for it. Behind closed doors they said what they meant.

A disgusting individual to utter his misogyny not once, not twice, but tripled-down on this reprehensible behavior...three days in a row. It seems the ONLY reason Rush is finally apologizing is that sponsors are leaving Limbaugh.

Otherwise, Rush would have apologized days ago IF he was sincere, which is highly doubtable.

what rush and Cnn and fox seem to forget is that this woman uses birth control for a medical condition and hence her health insurance that she pay's for should cover it. And the tax payer is not involved at all
