Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

Limbaugh has simply strengthened Obama's hand by being yet another "voice" for the Republican party who has made the party look foolish and worse. Thanks Rush, and double-thanks for waiting to apologize until it was clear that you were only doing it because you were losing sponsors. What a morally bankrupt clod you are.

This is not an apology. This is a lecture. Take away his sponsors via consumer pressure, sue him in court for all he is worth, drag him around the barnyard into November and then leave him in the dirt whimpering for water.

When was the last time Rush Limbaugh apologized to anyone. Apparently his sponsors are fleeing. Mr. Limbaugh goes on a three day national tirade against one little lady and now he expects to be forgiven by saying he chose one wrong word. Perhaps it would be best if Mr. Limbaugh just resigned from broadcasting and public life. He provides no real benefit to the public discourse.

I don't believe Limbaugh's apology is honest. Moreover, it's too little too late.

Limbaugh mixes a little truth, with innuendo, and a great deal of fiction he purports to be factual, and spins them any way which pleases him to up his ratings. He's a hypocrite and a poor excuse for a human being.

He claims he's a patriotic American, but paraphasing work by Aaron Sorkin, I have no patience for people like Rush Limbaugh, who claims he loves America, but clearly can't stand Americans!

Rush Limbaugh is and remains a man embittered by his own ignorance of Women, their biologies, and lack of deceny towards people in general.

That the former sponsors of his show have left, good for them! Their association with him is not a good business relationship. It only reflects badly on Sleep Number, Legal Zoom, Carbonite, and others who have left and are going to leave.

The problem with Rush Limbaugh is that his crudeness has gone on got too long and too far over the lines of Civil Discourse. He not just insulted one woman with his heartless and piggish attack on Sandra Fluke, he insulted ALL women in this country.

George Clooney, Lady Gaga, Robert Deniro, just to name a few... These are just three of the long list of celebrities that support liberal/progressive causes. Who do conservatives have...? Rush Limbaugh. Seriously, do we REALLY need to endure this painful election? I love the democratic process but can we please be put out of our misery and just re-elect Obama, already?!

Three consecutive days of his trash talking, and one apology for wrong choice of words to be humorous. BS. The cyst on his tush kept him out of Vietnam, but the one on his brain won't keep his mouth out of the sewage. Why does the GOP rank-n-file kiss his cyst? Because they're all cut from the same cloth... more like TP where they continually clean up behind each other. The gutless GOP leadership will 'forgive' him to keep the Rush ditto-head lunatics' vote.

This is not an apology. Why is Viagra covered under insurances? Viagra is used for (as Rush puts it) "social activities". So why should taxpayers pay for it? This guy is nothing but a hypocrite and a bigot.

I would like to see how many times Mr. limbaugh used his insurance to pay for his pain killer habit? I don't think federally backed insurance plans should have to pay for recreational drug use.
