Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

Wow, Rush. You're not only a hypocrite (does anyone remember Oxycontin?), but, apparently, you're also now a flip-flopper – just like your pal, Mitt. Hmmm.

Limbaugh didn't expect to be criticized by his allies like he was. He is only sorry because he was called out on it.

We now know how Limbaugh genuinely feels towards women.

The Fathead made the headlines again – that's all that matters to him. Apology is a small price to pay. And Mitttens should grow some spine. Not the language he would have used? What the heck does that mean.?He agrees with the Fathead in principle, just would phrase it differently? Good luck in November with this stance, Mitt.

As a woman, as a Republican, as a conservative, I am insulted on behalf of this woman and ashamed of R.L. Further, that none of the members of my party would have the integrity to simply say he was WRONG and should apologize, is almost condoining it. They all used spin words, such as "crude", "absurd" and "not the words I would have used" which in effect means they agree with him, just would have said it differently. I am sure if the other party would have done this, the outrage would have been palpable. Shame on us. We cannot disagree without name-calling.

I'm sorry I do not believe Mr limbaugh is sorry for his words. I think it is more about losing advertising dollars for his show that makes Russ apologize.

The Democrats act indignant, but the Democrats trashed Sarah Palin and her daughter viciously, for months. For some reason, the Obama family is automatically considered above reproach, but George Bush, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, and other Republicans are fair game. This is a bunch of B.S. !!!

A brilliant political move and quite possibly guaranteed his election. Obamas Executive mandates will now haue providence to lay claim to legality of future mandates. One issue GOP could of brought to court. Then again Neo Liberals do not act any different than cons wheo wiejding power. ar to Rush owing woman an apology No Way! Anyone who wants to enter political arena, especially our totall corrupt system, is fair game. A 30 yr old law student presenting one of most immatre testimonys ever used in females ever. That millions of males and females acted as they did shows De Toquetille was right when he said Amerian Democracy would deprite its citizens of being of any utility even to themselves.

Obama doesn't néed a Super PAC as long as Santorum and Rush Limbaugh keep talking. It's kind of funny to imagine the apoplectic cease and desist apologize NOW phone calls Limbaugh got from Boehner and/or Karl Rove over Mr. Limbaugh's political stupidity.
