Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

Yes, he did. I don't watch him or listen to his show. But, I'm going to tune in just to find out what advertisers support him so I can learn where NOT to take my business.

Its nice for all the nation to see that Rush Limbaugh is nothing but a corporate hack and mouthpiece. "Sponsors" began to pull their advertising dollars, so Rush, the corporate mouthpiece, had to apologize. WAKE UP, AMERICA !!

I ask that all CNN sponsors pull their ads if Bill Maher ever appears on this station again. He is a crude, catholic bashing hate monger. His behavior is much worse than Limbaugh every day of the week. BOYCOTT CNN!

Amazing what the loss of advertising sponsors do. Don't think for a second that this pathetic excuse of a man would have apologized for any other reason. Limbaugh lacks the conscience, self-respect, and human decency to accept wrongdoing.

His remarks were not an attempt to be humorous. It is disingenuous of him to try to explain it away in this manner. He is a bully, and like all bullies, when called to task for their actions, he pleads, "But I was just kidding". For those who feel that Rush Limbough is their voice, I say that you need to really search your hearts as to whether or not you want to continue aligning yourselves with this person who severely lacks decent ethical standards.

Does anybody really care what this self-serving blowhard says in his calculated inflammatory rhetorical diatribes that are, after all, aimed primarily at maintaining an audience base that will justify his being paid like a king? Not sure which group is more pathetic, his employers, his dedicated listeners, or his nibs himself./

Rush Limbaugh is like one of those short fat bullies in elementary schools. He will jibe and jab when he thinks he can get away with it. But bullies are cowards in nature and will grovel when cornered. His apology is insincere. I hope Ms. Fluke will go forward with a lawsuit against Limbaugh's libelous attacks on her character and put the bully in his place once and for all.

Unbelievable.Year after year that bulley throws out every possible insult to people that do not fit his ultra-right vviewpoints, but when he finally goes too far the GOP calls him an "entertainer". Limbaugh has nothing to do with entertainment. He was and is the political conduit for all the crazy right wingers that control the GOP these days. For the right now to call him anything else, is down right cowardly. You crazy idiots created this monster; now you better learn how to live with it. And as a result, prepare for a season of losing.

I use to be a huge fan of Limbaugh years ago but over the last few years have really lost respect for him. I really don't like him at all any more. This latest stunt of his is just way over the line. Not only did he insult this young lady once, but twice and then didn't have the cajones to actually speak an apology but write on his website? Common Rush! Grow up! You have lost perspective. You had it once but it's gone now.

Limbaugh says it wsan't personal. That's even WORSE. He was speaking generally. In other words it applies to everyone who advocates for contraception. Just keep your mouth shut Limbaugh, and do yourself a favor.

Now please, just how many of us really believe the Rush Limbaugh apology was sincere? Maybe if he proves it by going into counseling or drug rehab again..........

Sure, apologize now because all your sponsors are dumping you like the plague. Just goes to show that all he cares about is the almighty dollar.

Rush is lying. Sponsors are withdrawing from his talk radio show and that could put him off the air so that is the only reason he offered this Luke warm apology. Nothing sincere about it at all.

I detect a sincerity gap here. This apology has nothing to do with being sorry about being a complete creep and misogynist and everything to do with being sorry that the advertisers are slipping away.
