Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

There's probably more than one reason Rush and his mistress, er, uh...wife, have no children and she doesn't even NEED to use contraception if you get my drift....wink,wink, nod, nod....I say, is she a goer? Better have your pipes checked there, limp boy.

Why should my tax dollars be used to fund this woman's recreational activities? If she wants to sleep around then she should pay the bill. Even though Rush said he was sorry, he had it right in the first place.

Using words intended to insult and humiliate Ms. Fluke is not meant to be a personal attack? Now that's absurd.

Unbelievable.Year after year that bully throws out every possible insult to people that do not fit his ultra-right viewpoints, but when he finally goes too far the GOP calls him an "entertainer". Limbaugh has nothing to do with entertainment. He was and is the political conduit for all the mad right wingers that control the GOP these days. For the right now to call him anything else, is down right cowardly. You madmen created this monster; now you better learn how to live with it. And as a result, prepare for a season of losing.

Greed, that’s why he issued the "apology” just greed. He was losing sponsors of his broadcast. His insincere statement was only for himself. I just Hope he does not live near any of the young lady’s male relatives (A good punch in the nose would do him some good). then He would really be sorry!

    Sure Rush.

The ONLY reason you are apologizing is because your sponsors are leaving you like rats on a sinking ship.

Which, if you think about it, is a pretty on point assessment. Since Rush is really just a big, fat, overgrown rat.....

I never liked Rush and do not think I will like him in the future. I have never watched or listened his show and I do not think I will watch/listen his show in the future. All this being said, I have to say that I do not think insurance should cover birth control pills in general. Birth control pills are not for treating sickness, neither are they for preventing sickness. For many people who are not married, using birth control pills is just part of their life style. I am not willing to use my tax dollars to support their life. style. There are other costs that are more relevant to our health, such as those costs related physical excise/training and weight control. Why these are not covered by insurance, and instead, birth control bills are covered?

    TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE!!
Limbaugh had all day Friday to apologize and refused to back down. His insincere apology on Saturday was only because of mounting pressure and the loss of sponsors of his program. The man is a pig in every sense of the word and as the unofficial head of the GOP, has done further damage to the Republican brand – which seems to suffer from an epidemic of foot-in-mouth disease lately!

What a chauvinistic, racist, pill popping jerk! How about an on air apology with Ms Fluke in attendance using the same medium you spew out your daily vitriol rhetoric? If she were my daughter, you'd have bigger problem on your hand than a few sponsors pulling funding you hateful show!

Rush Limbaugh is an idiot. Those that find him of value are also idiots. He is paid to make stupid remarks daily, and people believe he actually believes what he says. I can guarantee you he does not. He only says things because he is paid well to do so. If Americans would stop listening to him, he would be gone tomorrow, and a major source of the hatred in this country would be gone with him.

Limbaugh is not sorry for what he said, only for how he said it. He is only apologizing because of the backlash against him.

His name escapes me right now but a few years ago a talk show host who made racially disparaging remarks about the U Conn girls basketball players lost his job over it. To me this man made even more insulting and disparaging remarks about this young woman and should lose his job. To allow this man to continue to insult women is an affront to free speech. No apology can repair the damage his ugly words has done.
