Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

Who cares? Rush calls it like he sees it. This floozy was in Washington asking for the 3K so that she can lay in her back. If you are woman enough to do the deed, then maybe you should own up to your responsibility if a child comes from it.

See the problem with Rush and alot of the GOP, is they spew this hate talk, and it does the country a negative in 2 fold. 1. It turns people off of all parties, but mainly the independents who are so critical in every election. 2. They spew the hate which fans the flame of extremist loons who listen to this condemning rhetoric. They know the job is complete when they say these things...message recieved!! Then come back and apologize...but they know the damge has already been done...and WE THE PEOPLE not buying that game anymore

So he apologizes for his "poor choice of words" ? Okay, it is not up to me to accept or refuse that would be up to the offended party so if she wants to accept his apology it is her decision.

If the pompous, knuckle dragging, woman hating, abusive, SOB ever apologizes to speakers of the English Language for using our mother tongue as a weapon of mass deception (and destruction) then it will be up to all of us to accept or refuse his apology. I am not accepting one any time soon

They were not "the words" Romney would have used? What would he suggest, perhaps tart or bimbo?
    The man is absolutely gutless.

it has become the habit of this type of scoundrels – make damgaing, untruthful remarks on national media and then apologize after creating a commotion. This guy should be kicked out as a radio host and never to appear again anywhere.

Just like all the other slimeballs who utter stupidity and then off apologies to "anyone who was offended", he sees the advertisers leaving his show and tht motivates his apologies more than anything.

I see no need for Limbaugh, disgusting as he may be, to apologize. His remarks, crude and insensitive as they may be, against somebody about whom he knows absolutely nothing, are obviously directed at making a point in the most notoious way possible. In that he succeeded.

Should tax dollars extracted by force from Americans be directed to programs that tens or hundreds of Americans find unconscionable? I believe that Nuremburg addressed at least one of the issues raised.

I generally agree with Jeff in Atlanta...Mr. Limbaugh's choice of words was very rude as he does not know Ms. Fluke and in this environment, words matter more than deeds. Ms Fluke was paraded before the Congress to sway support for free birth control paid for by citizens while she attends one of the most expensive universities in the country. 1. I have interviewed a number of women re: paid birth control re: is it the responsibility of the government to mandate that it be free to them and therefore paid for by citizens...they overwhelmingly state that it is their own responsibility to pay for such health coverage. 2. If health care providers choose to cover these, fine, just don't mandate it from the government. 3. Not being Catholic, I support most forms of preventive birth control, as long as it is a choice for a citizen to make for themselves. I do not support any form of post conceptive birth control, known as abortion. Abortion kills a vital life all because an individual choose to not take responsibility for the previous actions and eliminates an innocent life.

Anyone that thinks that was a sincere apology needs to have their head examined! I can assure you that several people in his party approached him and forced him to acquiesce with this "apology". The republican party certainly has its share of problems lately and this big, fat, bombastic buffoon is only one of them!

Rush is not JUSt a comdian-he always saiys that when he is frequenly in trouble. He is the ex facto leader of the Republican party-otherwise the Republicans would not be apologizing when they disagree in the slightest way with him. He needs to be FIRED for his comments-his weak apology and the weak comments of Romney and Santorus( Oh let us not criticize Rush too hard basically). I and my friends will NEVER purchase from his advertisers again until they drop his show. I have had it with Rush.

This obese, blustering marginally educated radio buffoon always has something to say about issues or people that he knows precious little about. Just listen to his "facts" and get a sense for his belief base and all this becomes clearly nonsense. What can be expected of someone like this. We listen and laugh sometimes, but this endless ad hominem stuff is a disgrace. Frankly, I hope this gal hits him with a major lawsuit on this. I'd hate to think of what would happen to him on the streets of his "rural, grassroots" (Read: Redneck) America if that were someones daughter or sister he just finished calling out!

Her name is Fluke? How very appropriate. Especially since the story is all about deflecting from the topic of Obama attacking religion through Obamacare.
