Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

Apologizing because you've been shamed into it and are losing sponsors is different from apologizing for actually feeling sorry for you actions. Apology not accepted.

In other words he didn't change his opinion. He just would have said if differently. What a pompous short-word-for-a-donkey.

Of course he meant it as a personal attack. His follow up comments the next two days show all of us how remorseful he was/is. Only reason he's apologizing is because any republican with a brain, or a daughter, sister or mother is calling on him to keep quiet. As the official vitriolic spokesperson for the republican party, he has just show all of us that they cannot possibly serve in any womans best interest.

  10. I'M JUST SAYING TOO....

REALLY!!! You created a national stir? Do you think that we don't know what your ultimate goal was? You were out of the spot light and like a three month old child, not getting enough attention. So, you saw this young woman testifying before Congress and seized the opportunity to get "your name in lights" again, all the while planning to apologize and wait for this to pass so that you could continue to spew your hateful opinions and ideas to those pathetic followers of yours who don't have the good sense to see through your crap! You are getting slow loser, transperancy doesn't look good on you............

Rush Limbaugh long ago solidified his place in the moron hall of fame. My questions for Rush are:
    1) What happened to you in elementary school to make you hate women so much?
    2) Who paid for your "recreational" use of pain killers?
    3) Who paid for your rehab to get off them?
    4) If your positions are correct, why do you need to lie, make up facts and research to support them?
    Awaiting your responses sir.

So, Clear Channel Communications puts a gun to Limbaugh's head and he caves and makes a apology. He uses vile language and insults to demean, humiliate and intimidate a person whose only offense was to express an opinion in a congressional hearing, and we're supposed to forgive him. I think not!

Moreover, tepid responses from Republican politicians aggravated the offense, making it clear that the Republican party has become the party of cowards, afraid to raise the ire of the great Rush Limbaugh.

And where was the Religious Right in this whole thing. Where were the preachers who want to censure our TV, movies and other entertainment? Where was the outrage from the self appointed guardians of public morality to the vulgar insults spewed by their chief spokesman? Is this the kind of language you'd want your Sunday School kids to adopt. The silence was deafening.

An apology made under duress is no apology at all. Limbaugh can shove it, as can Boehner, Romney and Santorum.

It never ceases to amaze me, how loss of sponsorships can bring out sincere apologies and noble acts of contrition.

Money talks. Lost some sponsors so he comes out with this lame "apology". Not good enough. You should have
included her parents and said it out loud on your stupid show.
It does however, put egg on the faces of the Faux News defenders, and magnifies the weak responses from
all Republican candidates that spoke, plus Boehner, and all of those who did not speak out.
    Humerous? You are not.
    Sincere? Nope.

As a liberal, I truly lamented the passing of William F. Buckley years ago. I appreciated his eloquence, honesty and reasoned commentaries on conservative positions. Unfortunately, he left a void in which there seems to exist only a dearth of sleazeballs to elucidate the conservative position. This is not a comment on conservatives, but the people who seem to be the face of conservatism.

" I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.” -Big Fat Rush

He absolutely did mean a personal attack on her, and tripled down on it. This is not enough. No real taking of personal responsibility. It was not meant as a joke, and it was absolutely a personal attack. Eff this fat piece of crap.
