Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

Maybe Mr Limbaugh should add a laugh-track; or one better have a live studio audience so we know when he makes a joke.

Works for Jon Stewart, Steven Corbett, and Bill Maher.

Thanks Rush for once again for using your big mouth to shift focus off the issue of taxpayer subsidized birth control. Thanks also for causing legions of independent voters on the fence to leap to the left side. Your are doing your part to ensure a 2nd term.

"I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke." Does that mean that Rush didn't know what the words he called her repeatedly meant? Or does he think calling women those names is complimentary? I'm almost never this base, but it's high time this lout choked on a Big Mac and died.

Maybe the Oxycodone and Oxycontin manufacturers will team up with the paper grocery bag manufacturers to sponsor the bloated pig's show now...at least that would be 'truth in advertising'

The most hypocritical angle of the enitre ordeal is that Rush LImbaugh considers himself a Christian. In reality, his stances are often the exact opposite of what the Christian doctrine proposes and this case is a shining example. Guess what? The bible says that Jesus hung out with the dregs of his society. He hung out with thieves and 'prositutes' for the sake of lifting them up. When the Pharisees commited a young woman to death by stoning for commiting adultery, what did Jesus say? 'Let he who is free from sin cast the first stone'?? 'You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.'??? And the thing is, there are MILLIONS of Americans out there who agree with Limabaughs words, 100%. It's what leads me to believe that the 'Christians' of the American right are some of the most backwards, hypocritical people on the face of the planet.

But health care plans should, of course, cover Viagra. Hey Rush, did YOU provide video of your trip to the Dominican Republic???

    Humor?
Does he think people are really that stupid (oh wait, dont answer that, yes his sheep are that stupid).

So.... If I said he ought to post a video of himself eating his own gun, and kept saying it for three days, and then said oh well, perhaps my humor wasn't all that appropriate – does that mean it was ok for me say such an awful thing?

    No, of course not.

Limbaugh is the rotten underbelly of the hate-filled misogynistic money-sucking religious right. It's disgusting to watch this loathsome slug squirm in the daylight, but it is very important to recognize its existence in order to exterminate the nest.

Every decent person needs to go to the ballot box and exterminate the squirming loathsome remnants of what used to be a halfway decent republican party.

NOT an apology. Posting on your web page is not an apology. It is hate speech, defamation, slander, bears false witness.

I will admit I have never liked Limbaugh...that being said this is the most degrading of all the degrading he has done.
I pose only one question, "Why do insurance companies pay for Viagra, Cialis and the like but, not birth control?"
The double standard still rears it's ugly head in this " enlightened society". Will he also want to see videos of all his male counterparts using these 'limp peepee drugs"? He is at least a wast of space.

Limbaugh is a jerk and a blowhard. But, its interesting that he gets painted by the media as some sort of spokesman for the Republican Party along with Palin and Glenn Beck. All of their outrageous statements are reported as somehow hurting the Republican Party and demands for leaders – like Boehner – to condemn their statements.

But, when Keith Olbermann goes on a profanity-laced tirade on MSNBC after Scott Brown is elected – why didn't the media ask Obama to condemn Olbermann? Why wasn't there outrage over HIS comments?

Limbaugh's comment was idiotic and inappropriate. It would just be nice if there wasn't a double standard when a liberal political commentator makes similar comments.

The headline writers need to look up the meaning of apology. It was not an apology for what he said, only for some words he used.

It is time for Limbo to go. He is an embarrassment to the GOP and really is crazy. If the Republicans are trying to take us back to the Victorian Era, they will fail. If he thinks that feminism is dead, he is so out of touch with reality and he doesn't deserve to speak to a national audience. The hateful words he uses and the disrespect he shows Americans has permeated the GOP and the party and the brand is being destroyed by this viciousness.

If this man made this comment to your daughter in front of you, would your first thought be "What a great American?" Rush is on the air because he says what he is paid to say. Remember the source of all of this is Rupert Murdoch, who thinks hacking murder victims phones is okay.

Limbaugh isn't sorry. His apology is merely to try and placate and satisfy sponsors he's afraid he might lose because of his idiotic comments. That is all.

What has become of our Great County under this Administration?
    What a shame!
Bowing to Mu$lim Kings, kissing their hands, kneeling and apologizing to people killing our soldiers!
Elevating sl_ots like Sandra Fluke to hero’s status while persecuting our warriors for accidentally burning a “Mayhem, Terror and Woman Abuse Manual”!
    What a shame!
Vote this Marxist shebang out in 2012!
