Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

As usual from Limbaugh, too little, too late, too insincere and after the hurt is done ... then we also know there will always be a next time too.

It the GOP and the RL ditto heads feel that contraception is a bad thing, then they can expect to Welfare Babies. 40% of children born in the country are born outside wedlock. We need for contraception not less.

The only reason this imbecile is appologizing is because his sponsers are pulling out, and many folks are boycotting any local businesses that advertise on radio stations that carry his show. The appoligy is purely for financial reasons. The only good that comes out of this is the number independent, and moderate GOP voters that are shifting their support to President Obama's re-election efforts. I thank him for that!

"I honestly thought he was incapabale of a sincere apology, but I am very pleased with his attempt."

Since it's only an "attempt" (and a poor one at that), why would you be "pleased". He hasn't apologized for defaming her, only for the words he chose to use when he decided to defame her.

So should we pay for Limbaugh's pain pills? What about his little blue pills? I'm sure that men are not even considering that these should not be covered under their insurance. Your right Limbaugh we shouldn't pay for condom's or the pill. We should have a population explosion and some additional diseases to go along with our pain pill nation. Those living in glass houses Rush!

First, Like Santorum and a lot of Republicans, Limbaugh is a KNOWN woman hater. You figure out why.
BUT – If this woman does not sue Limbaugh for everthing he has for PUBLIC defamation of character and slander, then the women is a fake and it is all a publicity stunt. This is the strongest defamation of character suit material I have ever seen.
No lawsuit – SHE IS A FAKE and the whole thing was a set up by Limbaugh's people to boost his falling ratings.

I would forgive him if this was an isolated incident or if he didn't actually hold these views. The problem is, this is highly indicative of this man's behavior, and people suddenly decided to take notice. He's welcome to have his views, but I don't have to like it, and I won't support anyone who supports him.

A NAZI flag is more his style.

Don't agree with his words, but I do agree with his point. If men and women want to enjoy recreational sec, I am all for it, bit I certainly should not have to pay for it. Democrats think my money just grows on trees.

ol' rush really went too far this time, what a mysoginist creep he is. what he said was so base and hateful, and now that it's come back to bite him in his big fat tush, even including soft-peddled "oh dears" from the repubs, he relays a remarkably insincere apology to Ms Fluke (and all women) .. oh I didn't really mean to make a "personal" attack on Ms. Fluke. well rush, that's exactly what you DID do, and you did it twice. I couldn't even watch the whole clip, it made me nauseous. Actually, rush has made me gag for a long time. the man is a menace to civilized society. In fact, he's been a major influence in its breakdown.

"All Mittbot could say was "I wouldnt have used those words." He is an idiot."

ALL the cowards in the flaccid field of clown car candidates have refused to denounce Rush Dumbo's defamation, and instead only complain about the words he chose to defame Ms. Fluke. Just show what spineless wimps the GOBP deathcult is when they can't even denounce something that's clearly wrong. They are intellectually and morally bankrupt. If this is the kind of "leadership" the GOBP brags about, they need to be kept far away from government.

People let this guy get by with everything. If you want to make him really sorry, which is not possible, flood his sponsers with protest and don't buy from them. Stop listening to him. I don't think this will ever happen, Fla had a chance to put the butt in jail over the drug parties and buckled under the pressure.

In other words, "I meant what I said, I just used words that will cause my sponsors to leave and cost me money, and for that I'm sorry."

Sounds like ole Rush was taken to the wood shed by the sponsors. Rush, you gotta understand. You can label anyone who supports womens' issues "Feminazis" with that broad brush of yours for just so long and then, when you threaten to actually force yourself into a woman's right to control over her health care choices, women will not allow it. YOU and the right are the ones persecuting, not the secular government. As always, the right blames the left for that which it is monumentally guilty itself. When are you guys on the right going to realize that 98% of women of all faiths use contraceptives in their lives and if you're going to secretly push for insurance coverage for Viagra, you ought to support coverage for taking control of the consequences. Rush, you may fool your loyal "folks" who believe the lies you tell daily, but the rest of the nation knows that you are no more than a no talent gas pipe with a microphone.

Did he make his apology on his radio show or somewhere else where he had a limited audience? Let's understand – his rail against this woman is against all women and one has to wonder why he has been married 4 times and the women keep leaving or he keeps leaving, This man has problems and my guess is if the sponsors hadn't started dropping him, there would have been no apology. In any event – his sponsors get none of my business – ever.

I don't believe for one nano second he is sorry for what he said. He had plenty of time to think about hie words and he even read it out loud so he did want to make this point. He is only sorry because he doesn't want the rest of the advertisers to cancel.

Rush Limbaugh should have been silenced years ago. He's just a narrow-minded, mouthy, arrogant, and IGNORANT person who most likely only possesses an IQ in the single digit range.

Rush Limbaugh = pig. Always was.
GOP = pigs. Have been since the 1980 Reagan Revolution targeting women, gays and minorities ... but mostly women. The current Republican climate of hate for *Americans* who aren't rich, white men is akin to a pimple finally oozing forth from a deep pore of pus.
