Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

So I suppose American taxpayers should pay for men to use their erectile disfunction drugs then?

It's a shame Limbaughs parents were not practicing birth control a the tme of this pigs conception. Just as he states , he has been a pig for twenty years now , 3 hours a day , 5 days a week. One apology down , and 20 years worth to go.

Limbaugh's "apology" was nothing more than a re-worded attack. Never apologized for the message, just the choice of words. He's a pu$$y who spreads his seed of hate across the airwaves but doesn't have the ba11s to say the apology on air.

Rush Limbaugh is a vicious pig. He's good at it, has cultivated it, nurtured it, and makes lots of money off of it. He has no class or character, and goes as far as he can to the delight of his fans. Only when he finally gets slapped down does he back off & say "Oh, sorry, didn't really mean that. Not mad, are you?" Then his ratings go up.................

Anyone remember Don Imus & his stupid "nappy head" comments of a few years ago?

Why do the insurance companies pay for Rush's drug addiction so that he can spew drug induced vile.

Take away drug addicts free ride to get their fix. End drug prescriptions to well people like Rush who are simply getting high, just like any common junkie.

It is horrible that any female, let alone a female law student doing a community service by testifying before a Congressional committee should be the subject of profound slander and defamation before not only a national audience, but her family and friends for Republican political pandering. Ms. Fluke, wait and see what happens to your job offers and sue Limbaugh for the economic and punitive damages you deserve. I volunteer to do Limbaugh's asset search for your legal team and forensic accountants!

He is allowed to have his opinion, and in essence what he said was right, just his choice of words was off. He is a performer, in the media and it's his job to create controversy.

I have yet to see a sincere heartfelt apology from this man. Not after he called 13-yr-old Chelsea Clinton the White House Dog and not after he mocked Micheal J. Fox's Parkinson's symptoms.

How his audience can be made up of conservatives, presumably Christian conservatives, is beyond me when he spews such hate and has no moral integrity of his own – having been a drug addict who is on his FOURTH "traditional marriage" to a woman who is decades younger making it questionable whether she married him or his money.

Apologize. That would be nice if it were sincere. I am appalled that this imbecile is even on the radio. I understand as a free nation that we have free speech, but that should come with responsibility. I am researching which businesses sponsor him, and I will NOT be buying any of their products. I am also researching their parent companies so that I get them all out of my life. I love the internet. It is a true tell all. :-)

I am so sick of hearing people like 'Voice of Reason' (really?) say 'I should not have to pay for it! Who (including Ms. Fluke) is asking you to pay? Are you her employer? My employer? If the asnwer is no, then YOU are not paying for anything related to her or my healthcare, including contraception! You are just proving the point that Limbaugh's disciples are dumb as door nails! It fits- who else would listen to this loud mouth who has no use for facts?

He's not really sorry, his lawyers told him to do this because he has just publicly slandered a woman in front of the whole country! That's worth some BIG BUCKS! I wouldn't blame her for suing him! Who would? (ditto heads, of course!) Second problem for Rush is that he has been losing sponsors left & right. If it got to the point where his show was no longer generating enough money, stations would begin dropping him like a bad habit! This is the real motivation for his "apology"!

Limbaugh should have been taken off the air years ago, he is not a productive part of society he feeds off the negative things in life , his heart is full of hate and darkness and i blame the media for giving attention to the things he says, if the media didn't feed in to the stupid things he says he wouldn't be heard so its the media fault for exposing him.
