Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

I think Rush apologized only because he's losing sponsors, and therefore money, over his putrid comment. Everyone should keep up the social media pressure and urge his sponsors to leave him. Hit ol' rush where it hurts. Not in the gut, but in the purse.

I wonder if he is man enough to apologize to her in person?

If you listened to the audio of his original comment, you can tell it was contrived. It was almost like he hesitated just a moment so he could say it right. This is a sad mad that wants to relive years past, before people started calling him out. This might be the best thing that has happened to him in about two years, I would guess.

Limbaugh's true hatred of women has been revealed. His bullying tactics must be stopped. The only way to do that is to take him off the air!

He is not sorry for what he said and never will be. Pro Flowers has to pull their sponsorship also. Women are the major recipients of these gifts and if they continue to sponsor him it just goes to show what they think of women.

Rush was wrong for what he said and he is "reaping what he has sown" from the justified outrage of the US. My question to liberals and Obama is where is this outrage against people like Bill Mahr and Gov. Brown of California when they have used this hateful speech against conservative women?

" Abstinence is free for this "loose virtued" woman. Pay for your own birth control. It's time to give this story a rest for pete's sake. " As per " Charlie "
At least know what the hell you are talking about before you speak. Check out what the young woman said and you will find out that nothing Rush Limbaugh states is the truth. You are just as big an idiot as he is. .

As an Obama supporter I believe we need more Rush, 24/7. I just can't get enough of right-wing stupidity.

Limbaugh has increased the rhetoric year after year because he can. He's even been named the leader of the Republican party! Politicians dont want to cross him. Even when he made the comments, leaders treaded lightly but slightly rebuked his statements. Only when advertisers started to jump ship did he see the kingdom start to fall. He's an "entertainer" not a politician. People take what this guy says as truth. He wants to get you worked up. Like Imus, he should be taken off the air. Temporarily or permanently, I dont care. I am sure Rio Linda wont mind either.

Limbaugh and people who think and act like him are a disease to not just America but for the entire world. He has insulted each and every woman in this world. There should be a lot more uproar from every american particularly those who call themselves so called conservative republicans. And this man has the nerve to call himself a christian. I am a republican and I am ashamed that people like Limbaugh are members of the party and a lot of people hear his sick humor.

This wasn't an apology - he vilified her on his radio/TV show and then he issues a sort of apology on his website. What a coward. So those of us who read find out he sort of apologized but people who only listen to his show will never know. POS!

He should also apologise for his comments about Bill and Hillary doing the "Hoeing" while Obama does the "Spade Work". His shameless comments are aparently what his listeners and sponsers want to hear. I will never buy a product from his advertisers and his listeners should realise his words reflect as their views. When someone tells me they listen to Rush I don't sy anything but think less of them.

Read the comments, Democrats want to give Fluke a medal of honor for lying about her age and her affiliation with the DNC and Obama.

See, Democrats value lying in the highest regard, for their ideology can not survive without lies. THink Democrat feel remorse like all Republicans do? ha, yeah go drive on a ultra blue area highway, you will see that they are the most indecent, selfish, narcissistic, hateful creatures to ever grace this country, and are coming close to surpasing the Nazis.

Brilliant move Rush, now lets see how quickly the loony left apologizes for calling Sara Palin, Bristol Palin, Tripp Palin a lot worse. I'm betting they will come up with mendacious, convoluted reasoning why it's ok for the Palins, but not for Fluke.

That apology is about 20 years too late, and completely insincere. You showed everyone your true self this time, Rush. Far from being funny, you're an ignorant, backward, authoritarian, male chauvinist pig. You need a lot of help in psychotherapy.

Don't blame this jerk for his comments. Blame his listeners. If they didn't whoop and holler every time limbaugh said something idiotic and offensive, he wouldn't even have a show.

Vasectomies and Viagra are covered and nobody seems concerned about that. Does Rush actually think that saying something like bad choice of words is an actual apology? I gotta quit reading this stuff, because it's bad for the blood pressure.

Clearly, this ignorant gasbag has no sense of honor or decorum. He fosters this poisoned atmosphere where there is no discourse, no compromise. His followers are a pack of ignorant, small-minded sheep. These so-called Tea Party people are dragging the Republican Party into the ditch. Too bad because we need two good choices in elections, not just one.

Limbaugh is a political dinosaur. He thinks women should still stay in the house in the kitchen. Tell me this if you don't agree with paying for contraception from taxes, don't tax payers pay for unintentional pregnancy through W.I.C and welfare programs.

I hear some say that most conservatives do not take Limbaugh that seriously – I live in AZ and I can tell you they do. People get really angry and agitated after listening to his show, and the GOP knows people take him seriously and that is why they do not criticize him. Also, the GOP has often taken the reins after Limbaugh has promoted and furthered a ridiculous myth about socialism or death panels and used it for their own political gain, repeating every word, they actually ride his hysteria making coattails and by doing so, they promote and encourage his behavior – there is a symbiotic relationship – a co-dependency that can't be "justified" as was attempted today on the Sunday morning news shows.
