Limbaugh apologizes for ‘slut’ comment

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" this week after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing.

“My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir,” Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. “I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Limbaugh made the original comments Wednesday, in which he also suggested Fluke wanted taxpayers to pay for her to have sex.

"What does it say about the college co-ed [Sandra] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says she must be paid to have sex?" Limbaugh asked. "What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

His remarks set off a major outcry, prompting top Republicans and Democrats alike to denounce the famed talk show host.

President Barack Obama called Fluke on Friday to offer his support, while Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum labeled the comments as “absurd” and Ron Paul described them as “crude.” Mitt Romney said Limbaugh's words were "not the language I would have used."

But Limbaugh repeated his comments during his show on Thursday and Friday, even taking them further to suggest that women who accept free contraception should film themselves having sex so taxpayers could watch.

In his apology Saturday, Limbaugh said he disagrees with the notion that contraceptives should be covered under federally backed health insurance plans, saying he finds it “absurd” that Americans are “discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress” and argued taxpayers should not “pay for these social activities.”

But Limbaugh admitted Saturday his choice of words referring to Fluke were “wrong.”

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.”

WHY is it that every time a Republican makes an error, their first response is always they meant it as a joke? Well, after the November election, I know who the joke will be on.

Lim-bleck is not now, nor has he ever been, funny. He's rude and insulting and obviously hates women. The women who've made the mistake of marrying him must have come from abusive households. He should be taken off the air as he's an insult to humanity.

I'm thinking Mr. Limbaugh's backside is sore from a scolding. I'd love to have been a fly on that wall.

So the GOP has boldly gone where they haven't otherwise made the trip yet. They have been so crass, obnoxious and arrogant, and what is distressing is that they have had the support of such a large population. Obstructing progress and just being a$$es, period. Now their premier mouthpiece has stepped on the wrong toes. Now they know that between "Flushbo's" jerk fest, Santorum's heretical rhetoric and Romney's lies, they have begun to alienate many of those who are STILL nutty enough to support them. We ALL know Limpballs doesn't have it in him to apologize. I wonder who yanked on his leash?

RUSH is still wrong. His apology is empty and he does not mean it. Tax payers are not paying for the healthcare insurance that covers contraceptics. ANd it is not for entertainment purposes. His empty gesture is adding fire to the insult to women he has already indicated. He can neither be trusted nor allowed to continue his "absurd", inaccurate and rude comments.

BS. That's no apology, that's the weakest possible backtrack to try to recover advertisers. An attempt at humor? Please. I realize his listeners aren't the brightest but even they must see through this transparent insincerity. That said, I can't thank him enough for the boost to the Dem prospects in Nov.

Strange that Limbaugh would apologize, given that he has developed his entire business model around being as callous, insulting, and inflammatory as possible.

Of course he doesn't mean it. Rush did it because he saw he was losing money. He just wants his show's sponsors back.

He meant it. Typical Republican response speak "their truth" and only backpeddle when the majority of us force them to see how out-of-touch they are with reality.

The ONLY reason this guy apologized is because sponsors of his show are/were leaving in droves. He doesn't care who he offends – he never has. He cares about ratings and $$$. Like the rest of the Republican Party, he is on the wrong side of this women's health care issue.

He apologized out of necessity since so many sponsors pulled their ads from his show. His choice of words is telling of how much he hates women. It's okay to come out of the closet Rush.
