Romney on message in Ohio

Youngstown, Ohio (CNN) – Closing in on another hard-fought battle with Rick Santorum, on Monday Mitt Romney drilled down on his economic message in the battleground state of Ohio.

"If you think this campaign against President Obama is going to be about the economy, and jobs, and government being too big, then I'm the guy you need to nominate," Romney told an audience at a Canton guard rail factory the day before the state's primary.

Ohio offers 63 delegates and a huge symbolic victory for any candidate.

Romney supporters have rumbled into industrial lots at a string of factory across the state, where they gathered on concrete floors to listen to the candidate amid the buzz of machinery.

The message they've heard is almost solely economy-based. The former Massachusetts governor focused has pared back his stump speech, cutting an ode to America's hymns and the forays into social issues such as abortion rights he has occasionally made in the past.

"I look at this campaign right now and I see a lot of folks all talking about a lot of things, but what we need to talk about to defeat Barack Obama is getting good jobs and scaling back the size of government and that's what I do," Romney, who was battling a cold, said in Canton. "What I know is the economy."

Later, in Youngstown, Romney made the case for Ohio voters to coalesce around his candidacy and propel him to a win in the closely-watched state.

"I believe if I do, I'll get the nomination," he said. "And then we can start organizing our effort to make sure that we replace President Obama."

He warned: "The process may be long. It may be slow. But he's raising millions of dollars every month. And has an organization, I'm told – someone told me yesterday – that he has 491 members of his staff, in his campaign staff. This is a huge juggernaut effort."

In comparison Romney aides have painted their effort as a more streamlined, underdog effort against the president. A Romney advisor said their campaign employed 100 staffers.

Way to go Romney... Focus on the economy and leave all the other BS alone. Don't let anybody bait or distract you.

McCain 2012 may resonate with the people who voted for the Weeper of the House and their radical extremist governor.

No Willard, you are not the guy and your party knows it best. How many years have you been running again? You, and even more, your devoted wife, are staring to re-act to the press (except for Fox Five understandably) the way Nixon and Palin did-not a smart move to run away from reporters or comment from behind, the way you did with the Rush controversy.

  5. Romney still doen't get "it"

Notice Romneys message: "Replace Obama". Not "I will make this country better if I am elected", just more of the same "Get rid of the other guy". Same message, different day still no ideas that matter.

The man seated in the center of the photo and facing the camera looks like he's definitely not buying whatever bogus points that Mitt is trying to peddle. Not talking about what is a concern to women, Mitt? Alll republicans lost that vote anyway. LOL Ann Romney is starting to look like Michelle Bachmann with all these women, after about 5 years, suddenly running up to her with stories of how they want Mitt to say the economy. OH PLEASE...... Thanks just the same Ann, but if you look at the numbers/facts out there, the economy that W Bush wrecked has already begun to improve without Mitt's help.

Romney if he were honest, "Ohians ...see these last few remaining factories? See all the ones that left due to my outsourcing? See how the few remaining factories' working conditions and overall attitude towards their workers has gotten much worse? (You can treat them crappy -where else are they going to go, right?) You want more of that? Vote Romney!

Wasn't his message LET DETROIT GO BANKRUPT and didn't he tell Arizona Home Owners YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN when they faced fore-closure? Video doesn't lie, Willard. And the reason you just can't close the deal is because you constantly do a 180 all the time–so stay on whatever message/script that Team Romney has put together for you today (and none of your so-corny anecedotes, please. LOL 2012 year of the GOP winner clown-show

If I were you Ohio, I wouldn't let Willard anywhere near a factory. You may give him a flashback of his days at Bain and shut you guys down. His slogan in Ohio should be, "Nominate me and I won't send ALL of your jobs overseas."

Neither Romney nor any of the GOP idiots have any agenda. Their only agenda is Obama to be one term president. Now this nation is on right track and going in a right way in Economy. o.k, Romney has no agenda, only his idea is to Ship jobs to China or India. Wherever the Cheap labor. He said, if you have college degree your immigration is stapled with. This is what he thinks to attract Cheap Labor.

What happened to Mitt Romney? He's been miraculously transformed into a traditional, establishment Republican, seemingly overnight? I guess his wife must have kept her promises and made Mitt keep his promises to her. Hmmph. If Republicans are still looking for a Great Hope, then I think they need to look no further than Ann "Can" Romney.

Michelle Bachmann sounded like a broken record stuck on "make Obama a one-term president" and Willard's broken record is stuck on "replace Obama". Willard, get a reality check, even your own party is still thinking they might yet have time to replace you. Dumb as she is, and even out of the race, Palin can till pack a room or stadium better than you can. 59 Points in your convoluted plan (that you never discuss) and all you can do is be negative and waste millions on your ads?

    Rudy said:

"Had Republicans not filibustered and block his attempts to repeal the Buch Tax Cuts, which is the will of The People, you could chop off one trillion dollars every two years from our national debt. "
    -------–
Want to take that back now, Rudy, or do you want me to prove you wrong again. Nah... I'm not waiting...

Let's see... chop $1 Trillion from the debt every 2 years. That's $500 Billion per year. Now since we're running $1.5 Trillion annual deficits, what you're really saying is the Bush tax cuts cost $2 Trillion per year.

    Really, Rudy? Really?????

Once again, you're entitled to your own opinions, just not your own facts.

Romney is the clear choice to turn around the country which is sliding towards the status of Greece or joining the PIGS group in Europe. We are at the mercy of China's money. We are going broke under Obama. We need a fiscal conservative like Mitt, with proven leadership and success track record in turning around businesses, rescuing financially troubled Olympics & turning it highly successful with a net profit, or turning 3 billion deficit of MA into 2 billion surplus and approx 4% unemployment rate. Obama is bankrupting the country with 15 trillions in deficit & growing, and 15% real unemployment rate. The country is on the wrong track. Romney is the clear choice to turn around the country.

Unfortunately if you show up at one of these Romney hate Obama fests, you probably are going to listen to ole mittens with a closed mind. It's already made up that the Black guy has to go. Old white guys hate the fact they lost a presidency to a black guy. And one that wasn't even rich. If this was a white president this would be a much harder sell for the Republicans. They sit there in amazement that this could happen in America. You notice no woman have been out there running on the Republican side. Tried that and it didn't get their old white boy elected. No more, uh huh, no more of that crap for them.

Well, Romney may squeak out Ohio, but that's only because even the wingnut voters realize that Santorum is repellent to the independents the GOP needs to even have a remote chance against Obama in November.

Ohio is the bellwether this year. If Romney wins Ohio, this thing is over. On to the general!

Mitt, could you please remind Americans of exactly which message you mean because we've lost track of all the flip-flops and BTW, bashing the president doesn't count as staying on message–it only highlights your desperation. What you did to Newt in Florida embarrassed republicans big time–winning that dirty hurts your party. Tell us how you plan to fix the economy and stop boring us to death with chanting America the Beautiful or stories of you joining your dad at events that happed 4 months before you were even born.
