Santorum fires back at Obama over Israel claims

Westerville, Ohio (CNN) - Rick Santorum furiously shot back at Barack Obama after the president said Republicans are distorting his record of support for Israel.

Accusing the White House of embracing a policy of "appeasement" toward Iran, an agenda that he said threatens the very existence of America's chief ally in the Middle East, Santorum said the president has "turned his back on the state of Israel."

"To blame Rick Santorum and other Republican candidates for our talk about what's going on in Iran, as this president continues weak policy after weak policy, out there with puffery about how tough he is going to be in making sure Iran doesn't get a nuclear weapon, and then does virtually nothing," Santorum said at a campaign event in Ohio.

He said Obama is "all talk and no action" on the matter of Iran and their nuclear aspirations.

Santorum made the comments in Westerville, a suburb of Columbus, during his final push through the state before Tuesday's Ohio primary.

Despite signs that the momentum heading into Election Day is with Mitt Romney, Santorum did little to dampen expectations here.

At the outset of his remarks, Santorum called Ohio, considered by many to be the biggest symbolic prize of the ten states that vote on Tuesday, the "key state" of the bunch.

"You are the epicenter," he told a modest crowd gathered at an American Legion hall. "While it may not be make or break, it's going to be a huge, huge deal."

Santorum reprised his main line of attack against Romney, saying his rival has tried to cover up his support for a health insurances mandate in Massachusetts.

"We need a president and nominee you can trust," he said.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams called Santorum "desperate and flailing" and said Romney has consistently said the Massachusetts health care plan should be a model for health care reform at the state, not federal, level.

Ricky babe, you think everyone believes your rhetoric? Come on you can only distort the facts just so long and most of us start ignoring you. Granted you still have some naive sheep that will always follow you, but you can't keep bad mouthing the President with your twisted facts and lies to get elected. Not going to work!

From Santorum's perspective, anything short of turning Iran into a nuclear wasteland is appeasement.

Obama never met an ally that he din't want to throw under the bus. Israel has eyes and ears. It knows who it is dealing with and it is NOT a supporter of Israel.

Rick Santorun is an out of control sabre rattler who is looking to start a war with Iran. Personally I think he's nuts but I also think it's all ugly lies and talking points. How can someone that is supposed to be a "super Roman catholic" be so full of hate and spite. Better go back to church Ricky you are way out of control.

Three of the four Republicans left in the race have made it clear that we will go to war with Iran if they are elected. Rick can't wait. We need a more reasonable policy. Just like the one we have now.

And your suggestion regarding Iran is what? To attack them? Are you out of your mind?? Not all problems need to be solved by being a school yard bully... but then again, you are Republican. Who's going to make money unless we keep the war machine going?

Let Israel take care of Iran instead of the USA. (Who has provided Isreal nukes in the first place?)
Two unfunded wars are enough and Obama is to smart to start an other one.
btw, Santorum is a hypocrite like all the Rep. candidates.

Mr RS. please focus on Romeny before you attack the president.I don't think that is a good strategy. You have to learn from Arizona and Mich. Again u r doing the same mistake. You have to focus on the issue that matter to the American people.

The president clearly stated yesterday in his speech, sending our soldiers to war is the very last option. Their blood and lives will always be the very last option. He stated that there is still time and space for a solution. Pray that he is right, and a solution can be worked out. If Rick said anything at all, he should have supported his president and prayed that he has the courage to make the right call. Sorry Rick, your bad.

Obama got Bin Laden, leveraged US and NATO forces to dislodge and eliminate Ghaddafi, carefully navigated US relations with Egypt as it transitioned from Mubarak's rule, ended the war in Iraq – so yeah, I trust him a lot more to handle Iran than I would ever trust Santorum, who laughably calls the current policy appeasement. I would be horrified to see what he would do in a similar situation.

Anyone remember the last time the neo-conservative faction got hold of power in the United States, and spun up a preemptive war. The basis for it was that Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, but there was no actual proof. Anyone remember what that war cost?

if Rick Santorum comes to power in the United States, how many preemptive wars will his terrorist-behind-every-tree paranoia spawn?

Now is the time for very steely-eyed assessment, not Rickironics.

Did Obama announced his strategies in getting Bin Laden? If he didn't, why would you expect him to start giving away his strategies in reference to Iran at this moment? Seriously, and Rick called himself a better leader?

Santorum is brave. Start a much more serious and costly war as long as you or your family don't have to watch their loved ones die. He also doesn't mention how to pay for it, because his entire rhetoric is is just to attack Obama. You are no military commander, Rick. Obama wasn't either, but he has done a Hell of a job becoming one to be admired. I'll take the terrorist killer over you in a heartbeat.

Really? Obama has supported Israel. Must have missed that one for the past 3 1/2 years. I hope Israel does not notify Obama before any pre-emptive strikes. He doesn't need to know because he will warn Iran or any other country.

No one wants your preemptive Iran war, Rick. You're getting tiresome. Go away.
