(CNN) - Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio lost his bid for re-election in the state's Democratic primary Tuesday night to fellow longtime House Democrat Marcy Kaptur, CNN projects.
The two veteran lawmakers were drawn into the same district this cycle after a heated redistricting battle that followed the loss of two Congressional seats in the state.

Kaptur, now in her 15th term, is the longest serving woman in the House of Representatives. Kucinich's 10th congressional district was eliminated and merged with Kaptur's 9th district.
In a statement Tuesday night, Kaptur thanked her opponent for "his spirited debate."
"I look forward to bringing jobs to the region and strengthening the economy of northern Ohio, from Cleveland to Lorain, Sandusky, Port Clinton, and Toledo," Kaptur continued.
According to her campaign aide, she had not received a call from Kucinich conceding, as of the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Kucinich, an eight-term congressman, had considered running in a different district-even one outside of Ohio state lines-but decided in September to stay put in the northern edge of the state.

Good ,
Dennis Kucinich can no longer bite down on an olive pit , break his tooth , then sue the Congressional cafeteria .
Litagation Nation !
Dennis is the Democratic Ron Paul. Totally out of touch with reality. I believe that Homer Simpson was in Dennis' district and then was in another district after redistricting. If only Homer and Marge could have voted in this district Dennis would still be in the house. Dennis may decide to run as a candidate of the "know Nothing" Party, the fastest growing political party in this country!
Dear Mr. Kucinich,
I'm sorry you lost your seat. I'm sorry for the redistricting that pitted the two of you against each other. I hope you are able to move to another district where you would likely win.
Best wishes for a continued voice that we need especially with the upcoming election and your governor there. Maybe you could lead a recall effort and then if successful, run for his post.
Is this man a pedophile?
Sad. He always fought for the little guy. Because he is one.
Good riddance to Dennis the Menace. Now Marcy "Wicked Witch of the West" can be trounced in November.
How sad. Dennis Kucinich was one of the very few people with any intelligence in the whole world of politics. One can only hope that he will return to fight again. America needs people of his ilk.
fate never loses
Mr. Kucinich was fervently against Obamacare because it wasn't a "single payor" system like in Europe. So Obama takes him on a flight on Air Force One and a few hours later Kucinich changes his vote in favor of Obamacare. You can't make this stuff up! He could have stopped the whole thing but he caved. Well it looks like Ohio voters didn't forget and gave him the boot.
This is really disappointing.
We love you Dennis Kucinich! You’re the most honest and intelligent man out there.
I hope this dude runs as a Green. Ohio needs him.
It's amazing that left wing nutjob lasted as long as he did. Good for you Ohio voters. Send all lefties packing in 2012.
Romney and Joe the Plumber. Wow...Go Ohio!
too bad this election didn't get more national play, heard it was absolutely vile, which isn't surprising because it was between two liberals
Got rid of his district? If that isn't a "message", I don't know what is.
We need people like Kucinich. Unfortunately, the whole country is voting for establishment candidates. Yep, just keep things on their terrible path...
Finally! People are getting smart and are getting rid of these career politicians. All of them need to go, from both political parties. Send them a message until they all start representing us again.
I am sorry for the free-thinkers in Ohio.
Looks like the dems just lost the leprechaun vote.....
So much for the alien-backed Alpha Centurion Candidate.
Even though I am a deep progressive. I am glad to see Kucinich go. He was not productive, in fact, he was usually very counterproductive as far as I can tell. Frankly, he made us look bad and never garnered any support.
Still a Democrat – and a FEMALE!!! U Go Girl!!
