Mississippi governor endorses Romney

(CNN) - Gov. Phil Bryant of Mississippi endorsed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Thursday, just days ahead of the state’s primary next week.

"As governor of the state of Mississippi, it is my honor and privilege to endorse my friend, Gov. Mitt Romney as president of the United States," Bryant said.

The governor made the endorsement public in Pascagoula, Mississippi at a campaign event, the first of two that Romney is holding Thursday and Friday.

In a statement released by the campaign, Bryant further pointed to Romney’s tenure as former Massachusetts governor and said the candidate “understands how to make tough choices as a chief executive.”

“I am encouraged and supportive of Gov. Romney’s conservative policies on key issues like more American energy development, cracking down on illegal immigration, and putting in place job creation policies that will jumpstart our economy,” Bryant said.

The governor assumed office in January after serving as the state’s lieutenant governor since 2007. Bryant was a supporter of Rick Perry before the Texas governor dropped out of the race on January 19.

On Tuesday, voters will head to the polls in Mississippi, a state that carries 40 delegates.

God Bless Phil Bryant. I can only hope the people of his State follow suit. Romney is the one person who can get us on top of our game again. Romney needs the GOP behind him and stop this crazy primary. It is destroying the Republican Party. Thank you Mr. Bryant.

Endorsing the least unelectable should not be a difficult decision.

I'm from Mississippi and was a supporter of Bryant's Governor Election. I do not agree with his endorsement of Romney. I'm very disappointed!

Sometimes you have to do things for friends you dont want to, but as long as you mention that they are a friend you are off the hook when they lose

I'm sure the illegal pardon master, Haley Barbour is in Romney's camp as well. Monetary prostitutes all run in the same crowds.

He has no other choice no need to go out on a limb and endorse Ron Paul the guy hasnt won one state. No one has even endorsed him. The guy going to stay all the way to the convention to help Romney win the nomination. I dont get the republicans the one chance they have to win the whitehouse back they give you a plastic man a pope a womenaizer and a oldman who listens to old people. They dont these people listen to a fat dope addict that calls women in law school prositutes. I think the republicans should burn down their own convention just to save face and save what remains of their party. Burn down the building and start from scratch 2016 regroup and comeback strong. Get the trash out the party

WOMEN....if you want to continue to chart your own course in life, you'd be wise to vote against the Republicants who are working hard to take away all the rights we have worked so hard for.over the years. We deserve self determination and should not be denied by the republicants that which is ours!!!Next thing you know they'll take away our right to vote!....Oh, I forgot, they are already doing that in some states!!!! Vote ladies....vote against the Republicans while you still can.

Gov. Phil Bryant of Mississippi is a wise leader and made a choice for a candidate who will represent the Republican Party and his values. Although some of those values needs an adjustment to help the majority of Americans. Given the chance, I am sure Romney will be realistic and deliver.

One governor patting another on the back. I don't see that this is any great shock. Didn't the governors of AZ & MI endorse Romney? I don't see anything different.

Romney has a long, long, extensive, successful history as a turn around artist.

This man is a geek, is wooden, and appears terribly aloof, but he is without question the person we need to reverse the Obama power grab, so that this nation can return to freedom and prosperity.
