Romney focuses on 'magic number'

Kansas City, Missouri (CNN) - Mitt Romney downplayed expectations in Mississippi and Alabama's Republican contests, saying he expected to walk away with about a third of the delegates when the votes are counted Tuesday night.

"If that's the case, why, that inches us closer to that magic number," he told reporters on his campaign plane in Missouri, underlining his campaign's ferocious attention to the delegate count in the GOP race.

Polls show Romney, who has struggled to win over some southern voters, now running competitively with his rivals in Mississippi and Alabama.

A win among the staunchly conservative electorate in those states could propel Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich to renewed attention, and reinforce concerns about Romney's ability to draw in evangelical and socially conservative voters.

Conversely, a Romney win in a southern state could put a stop to those nagging doubts.

Romney joked with reporters about his 65th birthday Monday as he handed out iced shamrock and Leprechaun-shaped cookies.

His favorite gift?

"A kiss from my wife," Romney said. "That was the only present I got."

If Mittens was white, he would be running away with the republican nomination. But, that is the problem with anchor babies.

Unsuprising. Almost all GOP/Teatroll/conservative thought and ideology is based on magic thinking. Don't worry Mittens...all your delegate votes will trickle down to you....

I think people view Romney all wrong. At some point during his Presidency he would make almost all Americans happy. After all if you didn't like his position you don't have to worry its going to change soon. Romney never met a position he didn't take.

In fact, things didn't start turning around until American Voters gave the House of Representatives back to the Republicans. Instantly Washington spending has been slashed. This is exactly what they sent them there for. Speaker Boehner has been working diligently and effectively and I am glad you are noticing the results of his leadership.

Truth – 24 months of consecutive private sector job growth has nothing to do with the baggers being elected and sworn in in 2011.

I thought the magic number was the amount of wives the mormon church allowed Mitt to have as a Bishop. Why is he so quiet about his church?

Wait a minute... I thought he liked hugs from 12 year old girls. AND the only gift he got was a kiss from his wife. Why not a new pair of magic undies for this Robo-Redumblicant? Maybe that will help him reach that magic number. LMAO

"In fact, things didn't start turning around until American Voters gave the House of Representatives back to the Republicans. "

In fact, what you just said is absolutely unsupported by the facts and data showing the economy beginning to stabilize and accelerate prior to November 2010. TWENTY FOUR straight months with job growth and recovery. Seriously...everyone knew that GOPers would claim that the economy magically began recovering simply due to their majority in the House as of 2011, even though they've done absoltely nothing to help the economy andhave actually engaged in brinksmanship that purposefully hurt the recovery in order to hurt Obama...but it still sounds point-blank ridiculous to hear you say it.

Why does anyone think Romney will create jobs? That's not what he does. His history is actually in destroying jobs in order to increase profits. The idea that the rich are "job creators" is a joke.

The problem Mitt Romney has is that he comes across as a fake. I'm a life time Republican but when it comes to the election of a President I want the "best" man to win, not a bunch of candidates talking about grits and denigrating each other because they actually don't have anything else to offer.

If you want to talk about unemployment, game on. It went from 6.5% the month before Obama was elected to over 9% 2 months after he was elected. It went from 10% the month before the 2008 elections to below 9% for the first time 2 months after the Republicans took the House. It has been going down since then. This is why we sent the Republicans to Washington. They have done their jobs well.

In Canada we already KNOW RoMoney won both states tonight

this is bad news for Amercia – if he ever did become the president then more countries would hate the USA and would likely target you...

he would be painted as the "white capitalist pig" – unfortunately this would result in more countries hating you!

stick with Obama – you are safer!

    love
