Romney focused on Obama and gas prices, not competitors

Kirkwood, Missouri (CNN) - Mitt Romney did not mention either of his GOP rivals on the day of a hard-fought pair of Republican contests, but instead kept his focus on President Obama and rising fuel prices at a Missouri rally.

Polls show the GOP candidate riding a wave of momentum in Alabama and Mississippi, where voters weigh in Tuesday night and where his competitors feverishly campaigned hours before the votes.

After adding extra events in each state over the weekend, Romney moved onto Missouri – and a general election focus – on Tuesday.

The GOP candidate offered sympathy to small business owners struggling with the cost of fuel, and blamed the president for failing to take advantage of America's oil resources in the Gulf of Mexico and off Alaska's coast.

Romney also pushed back against a criticism from Obama over the Republican candidates' rhetoric on Iran. At a recent speech to a pro-Israel lobby, President Obama faulted the Republican candidates for making "loose talk" on Iran and suggested their rhetoric could help Iran's leaders by pushing up oil prices.

"Frankly, it's disappointing to have the president of the United States take a serious foreign policy issue, which is Iran, the state sponsor of terror in the world becoming nuclear, and trying to turn that into saying we're somehow responsible for high gasoline prices in this country," Romney said. "It's a real stretch, even for a guy who's gotten pretty good at making excuses."

And precisely when does the MSM stop doing the GOP/Teatrolls the favor of pretending the POTUS can control gas prices? Seriously. Is that on your "journalistic integrity calendar" yet or what?

And no...I didn't blame Dubya. It's a favorite during every presidential election for both sides to yammer about gas prices and blame it on the sitting POTUS and it's freekin nonsense that should've been thoroughly debunked by now so the discussion can move on from fairy tale theater type crap like "the POTUS can effect gas prices lickity split."

"It's a real stretch, even for a guy who's gotten pretty good at making excuses."

Really? It's a "stretch" to think that blathering irreponsibly about initiating more military-industrial-complex wargames in the Middle East could encourage speculators to bet on the price going up as a result of supply being attenuated by such military action? Huh. I guess we'll all have to throw out our Econ 101 textbooks and get the one Mittens is using.

What IS a stretch is to believe that any sitting POTUS has direct and quick-acting control over the price of gas outside of taking actions like encouraging speculators or engaging in military games. Any and every economist with expertise in the oil market will tell you that. It's pur foolishness that the MSM encourages because it makes for great "news"...i.e., trumped up controversy that draws viewers who they can then blast with advertising/commercials.

Since when? This morning? All this out of touch idiot does is focus on "getting Obama out of the White House." Now that he thinks he has the nom, it's time to lie about gas prices. Mittens probably has no idea how much it costs to fill up those Caddies he loves bragging about. Lies, lies and more lies.

    OBAMA 2012!

If they do not give any alternative of solving the problem, there is no any need to listen to them. Blaming is so easy, BUT telling people what you will do instead, is something they can't even dare to say.

Too bad we can't run our cars on hot air. Romney would have solved the energy problems months ago.

His prissy little walk in his mom jeans and his stuttering stumbling about being friends with this nation's wealthiest makes me feel uncomfortable. If we could collect all the gas from his lying face, prices would fall immediately.

Obama has set up this country to produce more oil than any other country by 2015, I wonder what these repubs talking points is going to be now. OPEC have more oil than the world needs, and the price is still going up, we need alternative green energy. America you need to support green energy before its too late. Stop supporting the repubs disasterous drill baby drill mantra, the earth might have long left.

  13. The REAL Truth

Of course, it could be coincidental timing of the increase – completely unjustified (based on my research) – with the election season. Have we not already tried to inflame the Afghan war by burning Quran's and now having some soldier kill a bunch of civilians? Who would benefit from escalated military action in that part of the world, the ensuing impact to Wall St. and gas prices. Not I said the GOP [indignantly] !

Cut taxes for the wealthy and attack Iran - that will lower gas prices, give everyone a job, and bring wealth and happiness to the 99%.

Rmoney really has his mouth full of lies here. First of all, gas prices have dropped in many places over the last week or so. More importantly however, is that Rmoney's statements disprove the LSD groupies' talking points manure about how Rmoney is "smart" and a "good man." Proof? If he's "smart" he knows that Gulf of Mexico drilling will do little to nothing to reduce gas prices. Just look at how prices have risen even as US output has already gone up, thanks the warmongering neocons like Rmoney and the speculators Rmoney has not called to regulate. So, by making such a false statement, Rmoney is either (a) far more stupid than his supporters will admit or (b) he is a a weaselly snake oil salesman who will say whatever he thinks will get him votes, even though he knows what he says is a lie. There you have it, folks, Rmoney can't be "intelligent" and "good." Which is it? I suspect it's neither.

"What could be worse than being a member of the House or Senate at a time when only one in 10 give Congress a good-to-excellent rating? How about being the congressional leader voters like the least.

Getting that crown, with a 61 percent unfavorable rating, is House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, followed closely by her Senate Democratic colleague, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who has a 55 percent unfavorable rating in a new poll."

got to love the way people say, drill baby drill. If they did the research or even read the reports they should know how long it would take to find, retrieve and refine the oil such that it can be used for consumers. Anyone who thinks new oil can be found and gotten ready for consumers within a short period of time is spouting off and doesn't know what they are talking about.

I'm very sorry, but habitual tinfoil hat use has been found to cause myopia, so for a large portion of the 'Murikan populace, they can't even see past their own noses, let alone the forest for the trees.
