Romney says Santorum at 'desperate end' of campaign

(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was blunt in describing rival Rick Santorum's White House prospects Tuesday, saying Santorum's bid for the GOP nomination was coming to a "desperate end."

Speaking on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," the former Massachusetts governor and two-time presidential candidate said Santorum was bending the truth to resuscitate a losing effort.

"I'm afraid his conclusions are exactly wrong," Romney said of recent attacks from Santorum and the super PAC supporting Santorum's candidacy. "Senator Santorum is at the desperate end of his campaign, and trying in some way to boost his prospects. Frankly misrepresenting the truth is not a good way of doing that."

Romney went on to explain the delegate math that he said was stacked against a Santorum victory.

"He's far behind in the delegate count, far behind in the popular vote count," Romney said. "If you look at the math, it's a very difficult road for him. So at this stage, he's looking for some way to gain ground. I understand that, but I would hope you would use truth as one of the pillars of your strategy as opposed to trying to come up with one attack after another."

CNN currently estimates Romney with 459 delegates, well ahead of Santorum, who stands at 203 delegates. The two other candidates in the race – former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Rep. Ron Paul – are at 118 and 66 delegates, respectively.

Addressing the recent massacre of civilians by an American serviceman in Afghanistan, Romney said the isolated incident should not determine America's role in the country going forward.

"Certainly it's time on a regular basis to review our mission there, and not to make decisions based upon some actions by a crazed gunman," Romney said. "We don't determine our foreign policy based on something of that nature, but of course from time to time we have to assess what the process is there. I'm very disappointed that the president has not over the last year or two talked about what's happening in Afghanistan, what progress is being made, describing a time table, or why his timetable makes sense or not."

  1. The Greedy Old Pigs declared class war on US!

"Romney is the GOP's best hope for beating Obama."

And that, in a nutshell, summarizes how far the GOBP has sunk into deathcult status. Just more of the same insane, disproven policy failures with no acknowledgement of how they failed America and no new ideas to put things right.

Santorum said last night something like, if Romney thinks he is so inevitable why is he spending so much money? That was a great line, and now Rick Santorum has to decide whether he can charm his way into the nomination, or lead his way into it. Rick should come out against the practice of selling of Pooled Mortgage Securities and for getting out of Afghanistan now. If he does that now, he will be our next President.

Romney does not have a clear path to the nomination. It is true that Romney has all the appeal of a wooden stick but I had predicted that the GOP wouldn't support a guaranteed loser like Santorum who has been overwhelmingly rejected by his own electorate. But the Republicans seem more bent on self-destruction than any one could have imagined. Christian fundamentalism will not play at all well on the national scene. Nevertheless, the evanglical extremists and the Tea Party have a choke hold on the GOP that is evidently stronger than their desire to beat Obama.

Did Mitt actually accuse someone else of "misrepresenting the truth" ? He's really good at that himself.

So the best hope to beat Obama, is the guy who couldn't beat the guy who couldn't beat Obama in 2004? Santorum would manage to fire up the base if he wins.

RMoney couldn't do it before, and he probablly can't do it again.

Mitt must be eating his words now. Santorum has him over a barrel and with Romney spending 2 to 1 in cash....Santorum will be the Nominee.

Romney, Gingrich and Santorum are all extensions of Bush!!!! And while Obama is no better....These three clowns would do exactly the same....keep us in war, bring us into another war (Iran....and then possibly WWIII) I think if 'crazy" Santorum were to be dictator....then we would definitely cause WWIII.
The only one worthy...is Ron Paul.
The only one who wants to fix this country! The only one who is seriously addressing our issues! The others are ALL playing politcs....with OUR lives! You Romney and Santorum supporters need to wipe the dirt from your eyes...stop listening to FOX, CNN, NBC...and do you own (online) and independent research. Romney is NOT a conservative....neither is Santorum, and neither is Gingrich. They are all for class warfare....They will preach to lower and middle class...telling you that they will work for you....then when in office, they will forget about you until next election time! Sorry to break the news to you,.....but you are ALL being manipulated!
Learn about Ron Paul.....(Youtube, Goodle) Dont listen to FOX, CNN....etc... Vote Ron Paul.

  13. Is Mitt a Git?

Mitt can talk all he wants now, but I don't think the nomination will be decided until June or July. If he gets it, then he will have 3 months to campaign in the general election. In the meantime, President Obama's army of campaign staffers are gathering the dirt on Mitt right now. I can't wait until the flood gates open on Mitt and he gets washed down the plumbing.

"Frankly misrepresenting the truth is not a good way of doing that." Mitt, the disembler! Have you looked at your own record of misrepresenting the truth? Go to any fact checking site to find out. It's the only way you know how to conduct business, and it's precisely why so many of us DO NOT trust you and never will.
