Angle to sit out 2012 election

(CNN) – Sharron Angle, the tea party aligned Republican who came close to unseating Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid in 2010, announced Friday that she would not seek elected office this cycle.

The former Nevada state legislator who has been unsuccessful in several bids for federal offices announced this and plans to produce a documentary in an e-mail sent to supporters by her political committee, Our Voice PAC.

Obama: Election 'make-or-break moment' for America

Chicago (CNN) – Kicking off a five-stop fundraising blitz in his hometown of Chicago on Friday, President Barack Obama contrasted his policies with those of the Republican presidential candidates, declaring to a ballroom of supporters that November's election will mark a "make-or-break moment" for America.

"They have a simple philosophy: We are better off when everybody is left on their own, when everybody writes their own rules," the president said of his GOP opponents without identifying them by name. "They are wrong."

Romney attacks Santorum on Illinois airwaves

(CNN) - Mitt Romney's campaign released a new television ad on Friday in Illinois, hitting rival Rick Santorum ahead of the state's primary next week.

"Who can turn around the economy and defeat Barack Obama? Not Rick Santorum," the ad's narrator says.

Hatch confident about Senate seat after Utah party caucuses

(CNN) – Despite opposition from within the Republican base, initial results from Thursday night's Utah party caucuses indicate Sen. Orrin Hatch may survive efforts to derail his six-term incumbency.

While the numbers will not be finalized until late Friday night, the veteran senator's campaign came out of the contest feeling confident, saying the results "look very good."

Santorum brings in $1 million this week

(CNN) – Rick Santorum's primary victories earlier this week appear to be paying off.

The former senator from Pennsylvania's presidential campaign says they've brought in $1 million in fundraising since Santorum won Tuesday's Republican presidential primaries in Alabama and Mississippi.

New DNC video pits Romney against women

(CNN) – In its latest web video against Mitt Romney, the Democratic National Committee piled on criticism Friday over the candidate's position on several key women's issues.

The release of the video coincides with Romney's appearance in Illinois Friday morning, just days ahead of the state's Republican presidential primary next week.

CNN: Romney, Santorum argue over English as requirement for Puerto Rican statehood
Rick Santorum's contention that in order for Puerto Rico to become a state English must be its principal language drew criticism Thursday from the U.S. territory's sole representative in Congress. "Santorum's view is narrow and a limiting view of what America is all about," said Pedro Pierluisi, a Democrat, on CNN's "Starting Point." "English is the predominant language in the U.S. and will continue to be so, whether Puerto Rico becomes a state or not."

CNN: Biden speech leads campaign fight for Obama
Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday assumed the role of top campaign surrogate for President Barack Obama, harshly criticizing the economic policies of Republican presidential contenders Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum as a threat to the American middle class.
