Romney, Santorum divide time in Puerto Rico, Illinois

(CNN) – The issue of whether English should be a requirement for Puerto Rico to be considered for statehood lasted for a third day - two days ahead of the U.S. territory's Republican presidential primary - and provided Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum with opportunities to take shots at each other.

The back and forth began Wendesday, when Santorum said while campaigning in Puerto Rico that English should be the principal language in Puerto Rico before it could gain statehood. Puerto Rico will vote on a statehood referendum in November.

Santorum might want to concentrate on Illinois. It seems he is committing political suicide in Puerto Rico with his unwise, inaccurate, and insensitive remarks about the use of Spanish versus English. I don't know if he just shoots from the hip or if he gets bad information from his staff. Just like calling the President a "snob" for supporting education. Not only was it a ridiculous statement, but it was based on an inaccurate portrayal of what the President actually said. That kind of stuff may work in the Tea Party bubble, where anything negative about President Obama is cheered, regardless how ridiculous, inaccurate, or even disrespectful. But it won't fly with moderates and independents, who are not purely ideologically driven or just plain stupid, angry, and hateful, as a big chunk of the TP crowd is.

I find it amazing that a man with no money, no organization, no message, and being out spent by Mittens 7 to 1, actually has Mittens on the ropes.

English is the language of the United States as a result of the English colonization, English speaking settlers in the 17th century. Spanish is the language of Puerto Rico as a result of the Spanish colonization, Spanish speaking settlers. The Taino Puerto Rican Indian language ceased to be spoken. Spain abandoned the United States. Therefore, if Puerto Rico would someday seek to become a state they should adopt English as the primary language of Puerto Rico and not Spanish.

I hope Santorum doesn't find their English dialect offensive. They drink "pop", instead of "soda" or "coke". They wear "gym shoes", instead of sneakers. No doubt Santorum will get a big applause when he is "fin to leave."

Let's look at Hawaii, English became their official language in around 1898 when it became a territory of the United States and later became a state. In 1990 they were given the right to preserve, use their indigenous Hawaiian language. The difference with Puerto Rico is that the indigenous language of Puerto Rico is Taino not Spanish as Spanish was introduced to them by the Spaniards.

This is where Santorum and Gingrich find themselves: they know the educated/1%/Wall Street voters are going with Willard so they have nothing left but the rednecks, blue collar and extremists voters. Given Gingrich took the older, white male extremists that leaves the other two for Santorum so he has to say outlandish things (which I doubt even he believes). Sad state of affairs if you ask me. I'll vote for the one who continues to draw people of ALL incomes and ALL walks of life.

    Obama 2012.

I don't. More and more people are finding out how stupid the Romney family REALLY is. Matt Romney said President Obama was great, Ann Romney doesn't think she's wealthy and we won't even talk about Willard will we?
By November the whole world will come to understand the Romney's are not smart enough to govern 300 million people and will REJECT them accordingly.

It is the party of the right wingnut that has waged war on liberty for all : going after women, separation of church and state, religious freedom for those who are not teavangelicals, the poor, the uninsured, minorities, seniors, veterans, American workers, pretty much deny our freedom.
