Obama jabs 'birthers' with Irish certificate

(CNN) - While receiving a formal certificate of Irish heritage at a St. Patrick's Day celebration on Tuesday, President Barack Obama didn't miss a beat in taking a jab at the so-called "birther" movement.

"This will have a special place of honor alongside my birth certificate," he joked, to great laughter.

Ireland's Taoiseach (prime minister) Enda Kenny presented Obama with the certificate at a White House reception in honor of the president's Irish roots.

The document was to serve, Kenny said, as a "permanent reminder" of Obama's trip last year to the Irish town of Moneygall, where the president's great-great-great grandfather emigrated from during the nineteenth century.

Earlier in the day, Obama and Kenny, along with Vice President Joe Biden, joined House Speaker John Boehner for a lunch on Capitol Hill.

At the reception in the East Room Tuesday night, Obama acknowledged the belated holiday festivity.

"Today is not in fact St. Patrick's Day," he joked. "We just wanted to prove that America considers Ireland a dear and steadfast friend every day of the year."

Also making an appearance at the reception was Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley of Maryland, whose Irish rock band, "O'Malley's March," performed for the guests, many of them dressed in green.

The White House reception marked an extended celebration of St. Patrick's Day for the president. On Saturday, Obama popped into a popular pub in Washington to have a pint of Guinness with other revelers.

What happened to the video that Andrew Breitbart was going to release concerning Obamas birth? Dident he die from natural causes..? So where the heck is the videos? Obama also posed a FAKE birth certificate online. Anyone that knows anything about photoshopping KNOWS that he is lying. He spent over a MILLION on lawyers fighting physical release of the paper. He also has stumbled before in public on which day was his birthday. How...if you are born in America and have no reason to hide, would you forget when your birthday was???? Go ahead and defend this man for LYING to the general public in a blatant and arrogant way. Hitler did say "If you tell a lie enough, eventually most people will believe it."

Selecting a Guinness to drink today was one of the first correct decisions this president has made. I am very proud of him today.

It is not just his race that bothers bigots. It is his name, his open minded beliefs, and his push for equalizing everyone. Obama 2012.

Personally I have been disappointed in Obama ...NDAA anyone??
He has really done a number on tearing down our freedoms with the help of congress. However I believe he is American. I also dont like that even the POTUS is being treated so badly simply because he is black. The same ones who carry on about the Obamination of our rights being taken away, worshiped our last president who got this dismantlement of american rights ball rolling...Obama is just continuing what was started by Bush and Cheney.
Personally I think Obama gives in too much to the repubs because of " cooperation" .

I dont like what Obama has done. But he should be judged by his performance, not by the pigmentation of his skin.

It's always great to see President Obama celebrate his Irish heritage and take a fun poke at the nutty birthers. Their tiny heads will be spinning for days.
It's important to mock ridiculousness, lest sane people begin to accept it.

My post is a response to the one posted by Dannydrums, who is clearly delusional because of his rabid racism. The fact alone that he's President of the United States, is ample proof that Obama is an American citizen. One does not become head of the most powerful nation on Earth without being properly vetted. Further more, his WHITE mother was an American citizen. Remember, Obama is biracial.

Dannydrums, the president spends "millions" on lawyers to fight the release of documents, and he can't manage to find a decent photoshop expert? What a gigantic, useless whine.

Its nice to see our president getting out among the world nations and making a positive connection. Apparently you'd prefer someone who spends their free time clearing brush from their ranch and starting frivolous wars on a whim.

the hatred that birthers feel to this president is hysterical. the man accomplishes more for this country (and in general in one day than any of the birther's posting here could ever accomplish in their miserable lifetimes. These people hate intelligence, hate minorities, and especially hate seeing anything but a caricature of their own neolithic ideals in a position of power.

Go back to bed, kid – you're just having a very long and delusional nightmare. What a absolutely ridiculous set of assumptions.

It should be obvious to even the shiniest of the tin foil hat crowd that if you want to prove some one was born in Kenya and not Hawaii that you don't send investigators on three week vacations to Hawaii, you send then on two week fact finding missions to Kenya!

That said, if it's that important to you lot, let's see Romney's birth certificate, too!

"Anyone that knows anything about photoshopping KNOWS that he is lying." Ah-hah! Oh, Danny Boy, didja know that photoshop didn't exist when this POTUS was born? Did you read how Adobe Corporation points out that everyone's copies of their birth certificates are just as fake as the POTUS' since the same processes are used for all? A PDF is what you'd present online if you posted yours, don'tcha know. In the digital age, all pictures are merely assemblages of pixels.

I'm sorry. I forgot to take my medication. Obviously the President was born in the United States. The truth is, no one has been able to offer even a scintilla of proof to the contrary. The burden falls on the doubters. Without concrete evidence, this is nothing more than a conspiracy theory for the paranoid.
