Biden targets 'Romney's Etch A Sketch'

(CNN) – Vice President Joe Biden invoked the Etch A Sketch controversy to attack Mitt Romney's economic proposals during a speech in the battleground state of Florida Friday.

Biden specifically targeted Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney's support of the "cut, cap and balance" while mocking the Etch A Sketch comment from senior Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom.

"Governor Romney supports cut, cap and balance and which is yet another demonstration that there is no daylight between Gov. Romney and Republican leaders on the most important issues facing this country," Biden said. "And not even Romney's Etch A Sketch can change that. He is not going to be able to do that. He may buy a new one, but he can't do it.

Fehrnstrom set off a fire storm after he compared the differences between a general and primary election to an Etch A Sketch, during an appearance on CNN Wednesday.

"Cut, cap and balance" is a Republican-backed proposal that passed the House of Representatives in July 2011. Those who signed the pledge vowed to oppose any debt limit increases unless they included cuts and caps on spending, as well as the passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Romney has said he supports the pledge as a first step toward reforming government.

Biden's speech Friday in Coconut Creek, Florida was the second in a series of speeches the former Delaware senator is expected to make about the economy. Last week he addressed a United Auto Workers union hall in Ohio, a state likely to be competitive in 2012 election. The Obama-Biden ticket captured Florida and Ohio in the 2008 election with 50.9% and 51.2% of the vote respectively.

The Romney campaign countered with criticism of President Barack Obama.

"President Obama entered office promising to reform our entitlement programs and cut the deficit in half. He failed miserably on both counts," Andrea Saul, a campaign spokeswoman, said in a statement. "After three years of trillion-dollar deficits and a historic increase in the national debt, we need a new president – not four more years of broken promises and empty rhetoric."

Biden, who is also expected to campaign in Iowa, New Hampshire, Virginia and Pennsylvania, criticized Republican-backed measures that he said will negatively impact Social Security and Medicare.

"Make no mistake about it. If the Republicans in Congress and their amen corner of Romney, Santorum and Gingrich – if any of them get their hands on the White House, the keys to the White House I promise you, you will see Medicare ended as we know it," Biden said.

Why wasn't Biden talking about Obamacare the 2 year anniversary of Obamacare?

Maybe because it is unpopular and we now learn the costs have doubled in 2 years.

Is Biden and Obama against a balanced budget? What is their plan? They've had no budget in the last 4 years.

Because advertising revenue is the new arbiter of truth.

Media BIASm whined: "Why wasn't Biden talking about Obamacare the 2 year anniversary of Obamacare? Maybe because it is unpopular and we now learn the costs have doubled in 2 years. Is Biden and Obama against a balanced budget? What is their plan? They've had no budget in the last 4 years."

Unpopular? Which provisions precisely? I guess you don't remember the contraception provision Republicans made a stink over but the public backed Obama by huge margins. Do you really think no longer allowing insurance companies to reject people because they've ever been sick is unpopular? Turn off FoxNews and try thinking for once. I don't know a single person who doesn't like at least some of Obamacare.

Furthermore, Obama WON the fight so why would he need to constantly bring it up? Only LOSERS need to do that.

Psssst.... Righties Obama care makes the insurance companies use 80% of what they take in on actual heathcare ...We are having this well funded fight by insurance companies because they believe they should get to keep 50% in profits if they want...Obama care will force insurance companies to pocket less and give us more healthcare for the money.....Follow the money and you just might like Obama care a lot more ....It has some really good stuff in it..

The Affordanle Care Act does the following; removes lifetime insurance caps, makes it illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage for pre existing conditions, for example, asthma, pregnancy, diabetes, etc. Makes it so insurance companies cannot drop you for getting sick and cannot unjustifiably raise your premiums. The affordable care act makes sure seniors can afford their medications so they don't have to choose between starvation and survival. The affordable care act insures that insurance companies uses most of their revenue to actually provide care and not give their executives lavish bonuses and make expensive propaganda commercials, (I know, a novel concept). It allows young adults to stay on their parents policies until age 26, (although they won't ever admit it, even tea partiers and conservatives want their children to be healthy and live). This is the affordable care act. It is not Obamacare. It helps people, to survive, to not go bankrupt, to not get cheated and screwed by the insurance monopoly. But of course, typical human nature to be ignorant, angry, scared, and naturally be againtst their own self interest. Because of course, the free market, like Fox News, is fair, balanced, knows best, and will lift all of us up. God Bless America!!!

    "Maybe because it is unpopular"

Another of the GOBP's zombie lies. ACA most certainly is NOT unpopular when well over half of those polled say it's fine or it needs to go even further. Less than 40% want it gone, which makes them the unpopular ones.

  15. Truth and Nothing But the Truth

Why isn't Obama and Biden out there explaining to the American people that the cost of Obamacare has already doubled and the disaster is not yet fully implemented?

Why isn't Obama and Biden out there explaining to the American people that 3-20 MILLION could lose the healthcare they currently have?

Why isn't Obama and Biden out there explaining to the American peoplewhy all their union supporters have received waivers to exempt them from Obamacare?

Oh yeah... 57% of American want iObamacare repealed and this would run that up to 70-80% if it was talked about.

Bet you won't hear this from Joe.

When Obama was campaigning, he called the debt increase under Bush "irresponsible" and "unpatriotic."
"The way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents - number 43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back - $30,000 for every man, woman and child," he told voters in North Dakota.
The federal budget Obama sent to Capitol Hill last month projected the debt to reach $16.3 trillion in 2012 and $25.9 trillion in 2022.

By the time his fiscal year 2013 spending has fully gone into effect, Obama will have added a full $5.823 trillion to the debt. And Obama cannot blame his predecessors. By his policies alone ... Obama will have increased the national debt by 46.9 percent by the end of calendar year 2012.

More things you won't hear from Joe:

The Buffett Rule won't do much for deficit reduction. That's the verdict from the Joint Committee on Taxation, which provides the official Congressional analysis of tax legislation.

In their report, the JCT says requiring those who make more than $1 million a year to pay at least 30% of their income in taxes would generate $47 billion over the next decade, or an average of just $4.7 billion per year.

Meanwhile: The White House has called for the Buffett Rule to replace the Alternative Minimum Tax, which would only exacerbate the government's deficit problem since the Alternative Minimum Tax is projected to raise roughly $2 trillion in revenue over 10 years
