Biden targets 'Romney's Etch A Sketch'

(CNN) – Vice President Joe Biden invoked the Etch A Sketch controversy to attack Mitt Romney's economic proposals during a speech in the battleground state of Florida Friday.

Biden specifically targeted Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney's support of the "cut, cap and balance" while mocking the Etch A Sketch comment from senior Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom.

"Governor Romney supports cut, cap and balance and which is yet another demonstration that there is no daylight between Gov. Romney and Republican leaders on the most important issues facing this country," Biden said. "And not even Romney's Etch A Sketch can change that. He is not going to be able to do that. He may buy a new one, but he can't do it.

Fehrnstrom set off a fire storm after he compared the differences between a general and primary election to an Etch A Sketch, during an appearance on CNN Wednesday.

"Cut, cap and balance" is a Republican-backed proposal that passed the House of Representatives in July 2011. Those who signed the pledge vowed to oppose any debt limit increases unless they included cuts and caps on spending, as well as the passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Romney has said he supports the pledge as a first step toward reforming government.

Biden's speech Friday in Coconut Creek, Florida was the second in a series of speeches the former Delaware senator is expected to make about the economy. Last week he addressed a United Auto Workers union hall in Ohio, a state likely to be competitive in 2012 election. The Obama-Biden ticket captured Florida and Ohio in the 2008 election with 50.9% and 51.2% of the vote respectively.

The Romney campaign countered with criticism of President Barack Obama.

"President Obama entered office promising to reform our entitlement programs and cut the deficit in half. He failed miserably on both counts," Andrea Saul, a campaign spokeswoman, said in a statement. "After three years of trillion-dollar deficits and a historic increase in the national debt, we need a new president – not four more years of broken promises and empty rhetoric."

Biden, who is also expected to campaign in Iowa, New Hampshire, Virginia and Pennsylvania, criticized Republican-backed measures that he said will negatively impact Social Security and Medicare.

"Make no mistake about it. If the Republicans in Congress and their amen corner of Romney, Santorum and Gingrich – if any of them get their hands on the White House, the keys to the White House I promise you, you will see Medicare ended as we know it," Biden said.

Either the Bain Capital picture in which Romney and friends had money in their mouths or "Etch a Sketch" will be the enduring image of this election. No candidate can survive these two together. Romney will be the inevitable Republican nominee, but he is also heading for an inevitable loss.

Romney. It is inevitable. The script has already been written. Not even an Etch a Sketch can change it. Resistance is futile. Republicans need to accept the loss that is coming in November and start planning for 2016.

I do hope that Biden realizes that this toy has the same meaning as the Democrats Flip Flopping. Joe does not have a problem saying garbage, but neither Joe or Barack will claim that they and their plan cut Medicare to get the Socialized Medicine law to pass. All Joe is doing is covering for Barack Hussein Obama II. I wish the people would wake up and realize the facts and quit living in fantasy land. That's a good try Joe, I was actually surprise you were able to stay awake, but then again you're fighting for your job, and people are waking up and the facts are coming out.

I think most observers would agree that Mr. Biden often appears to have his 'headquarters' in his 'hindquarters'.
Amazing that he made it to the senate and then vice-president...he is a windbag and a fool.

There is no "Etch a Sketch controversy." Controversy implies that there is something in doubt here. But the description of Romney's campaign came from one of the campaigns own top advisors! How is it a controversy if the campaign itself claims that the campaign is going to "erase" their current positions once they've won the nomination? It's just a terrible campaign with a dishonest candidate. That's not controversial. It's just pathetic.

Personally, I think the Romney campaign should be investigated for insider trading. Since the Etch-a-Sketch comment aired, Ohio Art stock has tripled. Since they knew it was likely, did they buy low in advance? It's just was a good old venture capitalist like Romney would do.

Why isn't Crazy Joe working on that final stimulus plan accounting? Seems we were supposed to be below 6% by now. I guess 8.3% unemployment average is the new norm according to Obama and the Democrats.

And where is the big Obamacare celebration being held? I mean his big signature accomplishment thta bears his name and he shuns it like it's a skunk. Come on Obama! Tell us all how great it is so you can lose by 20 million votes in Novemeber, which the worst case scenario of how many Americans could lose their healthcare because of Obamacare,

If anyone believes that our federal budget can be balanced without raising taxes, SHOW THE FIGURES and the results of what those figures will do.
The states and cities mostly in dire straits now from the cuts already made to the block grants which the get and the money the federal government returns to the states and if more cuts are made all you will do is put this country into the worst depression that anyone has seen and I saw and lived the Hoovers and the next one will ten times as bad for then we were mostly a rural nation with 127 million people now we have more than 300 thousand and are mostly an urban country.

...and for those under 55, Medicare will end. Period. The age is set in the hopes that people over 55 won't get feel like they're getting screwed and those under 55 are far enough away from retirement age that they won't notice.
The Ryan plan replaces Medicare with subsidies for private insurance. That is clearly not the same as Medicare no matter what label you try to put on it. Seniors will be forced to buy insurance companies at whatever rates the insurance companies see fit to continue to make a profit. That's bad for seniors and a huge gift to the insurance industry.

People under 55 will get hosed as Medicare is trashed by the Republicans! Will insurance companies be able to drop anybody with an expensive illness under the Republican vision? Who will pay for the folks with no insurance who use the ER as their "free" provider?

Medicare, as it exists today, is ending no matter what for those under 55! The current financially unsustainable Medicare system is bankrupting the country (good thing Obamacare will help bankrupt us as well). The Democrats plan is to do nothing, demogogue and watch the country go bankrupt, along with social security.

If Medicare is your liver and the doctor tells you you need a liver transplant to live, do you tell him to forget it you really love your old failing liver??? Of course not!! Medicare IS your liver!! Logical people will vote to save the patient and go with a new liver.

George Bush Jr. campaigned on a platform against nation building and against deficit spending. He destroyed and then rebuilt two nations, and set the record for deficit spending in U.S. history. Anyone hear from him lately? Are his friends – the job creators – still enjoying their tax cuts? Of course they are, but where are the jobs?

Apparently talking about toys is the extent of Mr. Biden's intelligence. Obama and Biden have increased the national debt by $4.999 trillion in three years, more than the $4.399 trillion Mr. Bush increased it in 8 years in office. They both messed up of course. Our country is so messed up and divided now because of the two in office right now. Apparently Mr. Biden likes etch-a-sketch. Next thing we know he will come up with a new new toy...maybe a yo-yo or something, oh, I forgot we have two of them in the White House now.
