(CNN) - Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah will endorse GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Monday, a Romney campaign source confirmed to CNN.
Lee, a popular figure in the Tea Party movement, will be the first member of the Senate Tea Party Caucus to endorse the former Massachusetts governor. Romney previously received the support of most of the Utah congressional delegation, including Sen. Orrin Hatch and Representatives Jason Chaffetz and Rob Bishop.
Utah is scheduled to hold its primary on June 26.
News of the endorsement was first reported by The Salt Lake Tribune.
Maybe religion is a bigger factor in Utah than the Tea Party platform Lee pretends to support?
Who would be surprised by this endorsement. There is a lot of common ground with Gov. Romney. He has spent quite a bit of time in Utah and is part of the Mormon Church which is a huge plus.
With Romney the apparent nominee, politicians, even Tea Party types, know which side their bread is buttered on.
Who is Lee again?
Disappointing that he's going along for the ride with the frontrunner, but not surprised given he's in Utah and almost has to. He is practically a mirror image of Ron Paul and one of only a handful of politicians in Washington worth anything. Too bad but even his endorsement doesn't change my view. Ron Paul or 3rd party 2012.
The GOP should have dumped the TEA a long time ago. Romney's only hope is to have Jeb Bush as his running mate.
Another teapublican endorsement that doesn't matter.
So what the big deal
Another traitor to the conservative cause. Is he Mormon too,or just afraid of all of them that live in Utah?
What a surprise, one man in magic underwear endorsing another man in magic underwear; will wonders never cease
And the Tea Party overlords continue to sell out their patsy voters, and ram Rmoney down their throats.
Now if only he would get behind Liljenquist.
C'mon...36 years in the Senate.
No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig it's still a pig. The repub establishment will never be able to make him appealing to their base.
Every TP endorsement is an extra piece of baggage Mitt is going to be weighed down with. Mc Cain would not touch Palin with a 10-foot pole if he could go back to 2008.
I think Christine O'Donnell endorsed Romney, too. Isn't she the gal who suggested there was no separation of church and State as specified by Jefferson, Madison and other of our founding fathers in the Constitution? Santorum should give consideration to supporting Romney, too..., in that he has demonstrated a similar position as O'Donnell. Remember, Satorum said he almost "threw up" upon reading Pres. Kennedy's position on separation of church and State. One must ask, what are Sen. Lee's positions on these matters? Romney's position all depends on who he is talking to at the moment.
LMAO – No Comment!
Obama 2012 – The Only Trusted Way Forward!!
What else would you expect, all are Mormons!!!!
Teaparty will be the death of republican party for good in Nov.
UTAH? my,my. who would have ever thought that a republican senator from mormon country would endorse a mormon.
So, he is finally get the help with the tea people. It won't be enough to get the nomination without a bloody fight at the convention. Could this be the beginning of the party consolidating around Romney?
Well, this won't do Romney any good with the evangelical/social conservative die-hards, but still, a nice tea party feather in his cap. He'll need support from every corner of the party and a bunch of independent and conservative democrats to pull off the win in November.
A Utah Republican supporting Romney? This is supposed to be news?
Scrambling to endorse the least unelectable candidate!
One loser Mor Mon promoting another loser Mor Mon. No surprise here.
