A Sheen-backed Democratic message

(CNN) – The latest assault on the Republican budget came courtesy of Martin Sheen in a new video from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee asking Americans to stand against plans to "end Medicare."

Sheen, perhaps best known for his role as President Josiah Bartlet on "The West Wing," talked of his American ideals in the nearly 2-minute long video, armed with the consistent charges made by Democrats throughout the Medicare debate.

"It's time to speak out, tell Republicans in Congress that Americans work their whole lives and kept their commitments. We expect Republicans to do the same," Sheen said from a dark room. "Tell them to keep their hands off Medicare and tell them in our America, the cynics and fear mongers, the ones who break a sacred promise simply to reward the wealthy don't get the final word. No, no, you do."

The House is scheduled to take up the Republican budget this week, which includes plans to transform Medicare into a system in which the government subsidizes purchases of health insurance within the private market instead of paying medical bills directly.

Republicans argue the reforms are necessary to curb costs and address the budget deficit, while Democrats say the changes will negatively impact vital national programs.

Andrea Bozek, a spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee, used a West Wing reference to respond to the DCCC video.

"The President Bartlett Americans remember would never have signed a law that cuts $500 million from Medicare and empowers 15 unelected bureaucrats to make decision that could deny seniors' access to care," Bozek said, referencing the national health care law.

The video comes on the same day the Supreme Court is expected to hear a challenge to the national health care law, passed through Congress and signed by President Barack Obama two years ago.

The only ones trying to end Medicare are the Democrats, by their refusal to address the problem by offering solutions, and ARITHMETIC. Let in it's current condition, Medicare will bankrupt the country and with Obamacare it'll happen very quickly. But bankrupting the country is a primary plank in the Democrat Party given their repeated irresponsible financial behavior.

Yeah, OK.... sorry, I can't take the guy who spawned Charlie Sheen seriously. Why don't you spend your time getting your son the help he desperately needs?

Martin Sheen's opinion and $1.00 will get you a cup of coffee at McDonalds. Since they only charge $1.00 anyway, I guess Mr Sheen's opinion is worthless. Like father, like son!

Whenever the truth is told, there is outrage from the right wingnuts. Ryan's plan is a republican death panel for seniors who are ill.

When people pay into a system for their entire life, why do republicans call it an 'entitlement' and want to take it away?

America, don't be fooled by Sheen and the other Hollywood buffoons. Sheen and other Hollywood celebrities just want to support the presidents misguided agenda and will do and say anything to extend the reign of destruction and divisiveness promulgated by the president and his moronic administration.

There are some Hollywood celebrities that really do care about our country; Sheen, Springsteen, etc., etc., etc. are just NOT among them.

Lastly, Latinos, were you aware that Univision and Goya Foods are doing the bidding for all Latinos. They unconditionally support the president's policies, no matter how misguided they are. This issue should be of concern to all Latinos. It DEFINITELY IS to me!!!

...and how does President Josiah Bartlet suppose we deal with the issue of Medicare funding running dry in 2024? Very likely he will need a good fiction writer to talk his way around that issue.

Meanwhile, in the real world Paul Ryan and the Republican House have developed a plan to actually save Medicare. And to begin paying down our $16 trillion in debt. And doing it without raising taxes. Imagine that. Managing our federal government instead of plundering the taxpayer. Romney 2012!

I really don't think that republicans should be giving more tax cuts for the wealthy and expecting seniors to pay for it.

The actors are only considered idiots by Republicans if they speak from a Democratic point of view. They seem to forget that their Man Crush Reagan was once an actor...I guess if they were lousy actors they can be Republicans. That stands to reason because while Republicans are technically politicians they are lousy at the job of doing what the people elect them to do.

How does it do this if people 55 and older remain part of the old plan? As Joe Wilsom so eloquently stated "You lie!".

Democrats plan is to end Medicare as well. They intend to just let it die a long toturous death, along with the country, as they both go bankrupt.

If they had a plan to save it they would put it out there. But they have NOTHING. Yet they do nothing but attack those trying to come up with solutions. Dishonest, lazy Democrats. Leadership from behind, yet again.

Same "plan" they had a year ago, and was shot down by everyone, their own included? Yeah. That's about all you can do Four, is "imagine", and you'd need a pretty big imagination to "imagine that" because "that" ain't happening in real life. Your team still has NO VIABLE plan to save anything for the middle class. And what they are doing to the taxpayer on behalf of the 1%ers they are wholly committed to serve and protect is a little bit more intrusive than "plundering".
    Obama 2012. Seriously America.

Remember when 'elite' was a GOOD thing? Back before the right-wing whackos made it bad to be the best.(Don't tell that to our 'elite special forces'!) Talk about lowering the bar. I guess that's why people like Palin, Bachmann, Romney, Gingrich, et al got to where they did. For me, I would like the best (elite) in the most powerful position in the world. Wouldn't that kinda make you feel secure?

Obama's "new world order" is being dictated by Socialist George Soros. It's a plague that is consuming Europe and Obama wants to inflict it on the USA, even more than the Democrats already have.

It is Economics 101. Too many people want to stay on the Government dole without paying for it. As some have noted, we have a nearly 16 Trillion Dollar Federal Debt. All the Social Programs, put in place, by Democrats, are running out of money. Make that already ran out of money. If Obama Crae isn't heaved out the Fragile Recovery, if there is one will stop in it's tracks. But people voted for it. So live with it.
