Washington (CNN) - In another sign the GOP establishment is coalescing behind Mitt Romney, former President George H.W. Bush is scheduled to formally endorse the Republican frontrunner on Thursday.
A Romney campaign spokeswoman confirmed Bush is expected to officially throw his support behind the GOP contender at an event in Houston, near the former president's home.

Before Wednesday's campaign announcement, the Bush family had already signaled its support for Romney. Earlier this month, the campaign recruited former first lady Barbara Bush to record pro-Romney robo-calls in the days leading up the Ohio primary on Super Tuesday.
"We have known the Romneys for years and believe Mitt is the best man to lead the country for the next four years and Ann will make a great first lady," Mrs. Bush said on the call.
Last December, Bush made it clear he intended to support Romney in an interview with the Houston Chronicle.
"I think Romney is the best choice for us," former President Bush told the Houston Chronicle.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush endorsed Romney last week.

Obama has increased the deficit at a rate several times greater than ANY GOP pres. I've never trusted what Obama might do in a 2nd term without an election hanging over his head. The "open mic" situation just confirmed that he's planning to let loose with some very dangerous left-wing policies if given the chance. He's been over his head and taking advice from extremists with an agenda. We can't give him a chance to do further damage. Before everyone spouts off about Bush- Obama promised he would fix the economy in 3 yrs and if not he didn't deserve another term. We just need to hold him at him word. NEVER has the US had it's credit rating downgraded. NEVER has the US racked up a debt greater than the GDP.
