Washington (CNN) - In another sign the GOP establishment is coalescing behind Mitt Romney, former President George H.W. Bush is scheduled to formally endorse the Republican frontrunner on Thursday.
A Romney campaign spokeswoman confirmed Bush is expected to officially throw his support behind the GOP contender at an event in Houston, near the former president's home.

Before Wednesday's campaign announcement, the Bush family had already signaled its support for Romney. Earlier this month, the campaign recruited former first lady Barbara Bush to record pro-Romney robo-calls in the days leading up the Ohio primary on Super Tuesday.
"We have known the Romneys for years and believe Mitt is the best man to lead the country for the next four years and Ann will make a great first lady," Mrs. Bush said on the call.
Last December, Bush made it clear he intended to support Romney in an interview with the Houston Chronicle.
"I think Romney is the best choice for us," former President Bush told the Houston Chronicle.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush endorsed Romney last week.

Well Mitt welcome to 1991 where Bush 41 endorsing you actually means something. WAIT???!!! its 2012 yeah does not mean a thing!!!!!!!!
Well, there's only one other Bush to announce his support for Romney – what are the chances he'll come out from hiding to do so? I sure hope we see that as that will be the final nail in Romney's coffin.
Gee Doesn't GW look a little haggard and old. Must be onset of Alzheimer's to think he has the power to unite the Republican party. A one term President pointing fingers at failures. Guess he forgot his biggest failure. To actually run for President.
Read my lips: An endorsement from a Bush is the death knell of a campaign.
He's only doing this because someone told him that Mittens, if elected, will issue him a waiver that he can use to get out of eating his broccolli.
Endorsements from Jeb Bush and now GHW Bush? With friends like those, who needs enemas?
If it helps the people than its the best choice. Anything else than that is wrong.
@SOUP- "NEVER has the US had it's credit rating downgraded. NEVER has the US racked up a debt greater than the GDP."

And 99% of the people know who was the cause – The TeaPartiers for the downgrade & the Bush/Cheney regime for the exhorbitant debt that Obama will decrease if ever given an opportunity to do so.
Mittens is getting most of the vote of people who make up the upper 1% of wealth.
Gee, why isn't "W" endorsing anyone?? It's not because he was the worst president ever is it? lmao
@FLIndependent: "And 99% of the people know who was the cause – The TeaPartiers for the downgrade & the Bush/Cheney regime for the exhorbitant debt that Obama will decrease if ever given an opportunity to do so."
And I would add that all Dems, Independents and thinking Republicans should get out and vote for Obama/Biden in November. The GOP is doing EVERYTHING it can to suppress voting – particularly in Florida, where they've criminalized voter registration to the point that the League of Women Voters (and other established organizations) are not doing voter drives.
The result? Over 80,000 fewer new voters have been registered compared to this time during the 2008 election.
So get out and vote! Get out and help your neighbor get registered! The GOP wants to regain control – and we all know what will happen if they do.
They are recycling the same FAILED POLICIES that got our country into this mess, and if given the chance, they will completely destroy the American Middle Class, leaving in its wake a disillusioned, hopeless labor force and a government so completely deregulated that they will be able to suck all the natural resources out of our country to use to make their millions and billions overseas.
It's all about money to the GOP – and the money game is international. Sure, they spew nonsense about how patriotic and "Amurikan" they are, but they couldn't care less about our country. All they care about is money and power.
Obama/Biden 2012
Is this a surprise to ANYONE?? HW is a moderate, so is Romney (I think)
George HW Bush helped bring the Cold War to an end. President Obama and soon to be President Romney should follow his foreign policy and not the democratic one termer Jimmy Carter
Actually I think the majority of the repubs want him for one reason and one reason only, he's white. That's the only reason I can think of for them to want to return to the same policies that got us to where we are now. How can any poor or middle class American vote for Robmey? The man has closed companies and shipped jobs overseas and hides money in off shore accounts. Come on people, if Obama had done the same he wouldn't be in the white house right now. Being an educated, strong black woman in America, this really depresses me.
bush, we do not care about your opinion. you ruined the country so you can keep your upperclassmen getting richer and suppressing the middle class to the point of economic ruin
YAWN. Mr. Irrelevant, father of the worthless one who created this economic disaster, would have more impact doing a Depends commercial.
Cousin Bush endorses his cousin Romney.
He has dementia, actually thats a good thing cuz if George senior ever realized how Jr. ruined America he'd flip out.
Why do people think endorsements have any value??? If the voter happens to like the endorseee {sp} maybe it might make a slight difference, if not it could turn them off, a condition which might be found here!! !Frankly....who cares????
Thanks for that ringing endorsement, Mr. Bush! But, we're gonna stick with Pres. Obama & our beautiful First Lady Michelle Obama!! ~OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!!

Tell me again what party is against "freeloaders" but don't seem to care that everyone with insurance is paying for those without that go to the ER. Tell me again what party wants to repeal the Affordable Heathcare Act and deny individuals the freedom to live without worry of ending up in bankruptcy over healthcare bills. I could go on but why bother – people like you will never get your hypocrisy!
it doesnt matter who he endorses all the republican candidates or for millionaires like him,and not for working americans like me
@ Fair is Fair: that was a joke, right? If not, you need to put your crystal ball away and dust off your ouija board because Nuts is Nuts. @ Woman in California: well said. You nailed it! I want to add a couple of thoughts (my own personal feelings): if Romney is the best the Republicans have to offer, I'll be voting outside of my party- "Better the devil you know, than the one you don't". Romney mis-speaks and then corrects himself (after his advisors sound the uh-oh buzzer) way too often- this brings back memories of flip-flopping John Kerry. Being President is a serious position of power. My father had a saying I heard him use more than once: Make sure brain is engaged before putting mouth into gear. It certainly must have originally been said with Mitt Romney in mind. Hopefully he won't get the nomination, and certainly he won't win the election because the last thing we need is a power-hungry, mis-speaking, egotistical man in charge of a world power.
Gee, what a surprise. Millionaires endorse millionaires.
who cares about the endorsement of a camdidate who is for the rich the country cant use a president right now who gives tax breaks to the rich
