Gingrich campaign plans fewer attacks on Romney

Washington (CNN) - Newt Gingrich's downsized campaign may be leaner. But it won't be meaner.

In an interview with CNN, Gingrich's Chief of Staff Patrick Millsaps said the former speaker plans to steer his attacks away from his one time nemesis Mitt Romney and toward President Barack Obama.

Part of the rationale for the strategy shift came Monday after Obama was caught on an open microphone telling Russian President Dmitry Medvedev he would have "more flexibility" to negotiate after the fall election.

"The moment that Obama is caught on tape trying to cut a deal with Russia so that he can get re-elected, that changed the ballgame for Newt Gingrich," Millsaps said. "Obama is the person that we need to beat and Obama is the one that we're gonna take on."

After a bitter primary battle with Romney, Gingrich seemed to soften his rhetoric on the GOP frontrunner at an event in Annapolis, Maryland on Tuesday.

Gingrich told reporters he plans to throw his support behind Romney if the former Massachusetts governor wins the 1,144 delegates needed to clinch the GOP nomination.

"If he gets a majority, obviously I will support him and will be delighted to do anything I can to help defeat Barack Obama," Gingrich said.

Newt is as likable as Mittens is, but Mittens has $100 million to spend to win the nomination.

Spkr. Gingrich is letting staff members go. Does that mean he is not a 'job creator'?

The moment that Obama is caught on tape trying to cut a deal with Russia so that he can get re-elected, that changed the ballgame for Newt Gingrich," Millsaps said.
As Sen Santorum would say, bulls**t. The ballgame changed when the fact that Spkr. Gingrich is unelectable finally permeated his colossal ego.

Yeah, racist claims against the president because that is how dirty and shameful he is. Gingrich now wants to be looked at as the hero for the Romney campaign. This will be one of the most hateful, shameful elections in a long time. America will get a chance to see up close and personal that for as much as changed, nothing has really changed at all! My prayers go out to the Obama family because they are going to need it as the dirty politics of race, power and superiority will take center stage!

He's on a "Book Tour" with federal funds matching (our taxes wasted on the Tiffany couple of the year). Complete with security?

now that he knows that he has no chance to get GOP nomination to go against Obama, Gingrich wants to lick the front runner's ass and please him. Typical politician.

Newt Gingrich is going to have a campaign finance scandal. He's using campaign funds to conduct a book tour. Calllista is supposed to be campaigning for him, but yet she spends half of her time visiting elementary schools selling her own book.

I guess he doesn't even plan on stopping Romney at this point. Is he trying to be VP on the ticket? Maybe he'd accept a cabinet postion.

I will never forget the time in St George when the Lds sat me down for an hour & wanted me to join their cult. I said no problem, appoint a black elder, needless to say, that conversation ended abruptly & they left. Oh well, back to work, be back at break, some of us have to actulally work for a living.

of course he'll plan LESS attacks..he's darn near OUT OF MONEY!! When you have to ask for 50 bucks to have a picture taken and then lay off over half your staff, I doubt if attacking the front runner is a good idea.

Newt's campaign financier has dropped him, now he's looking for people foolish enough to finance his wife's Tiffany pleasure. Newt knows there's a fool born everyday and he will milk people for every cent he can get just like he milked Fannie and Freddie and then hid his hand.
