"But, but.., we want to pay more for gas now so we don't have to in 2050!! Right??"

But but but...., you clearly have no clue how oil and gas prices are set nor does it fit with conservative ideology regarding "free market" rational business decision-making to posit that companies making record profits while receving unnecessary subsidization from the gov't will automatically raise prices if those subsidies are withdrawn.

I'm I'm I'm still shaking my head. We WE we have a serious corruption problem in our Government. It's like, we've been infilitrated by a foreign enemy. If the BIG OIL has this much control, to cripple our country...along with other monopolies, foreign money paying off the GOP, we have a serious serious problem.

"With BIG OIL making RECORD quarterly profits, I cannot understand why the Republicans would want to give them "tax breaks" in the form of government subsidies unless they need more contributions for their upcoming politcal campaigns."

It's called LAUNDERING. You push the money through certain channels so it can come back to you "clean."

Better yet; Obama can add the oil subsidies onto the 4 billion in tax payer dollars wated on on “Green energy programs”. We can see how much of this money is being bundled and sent back to the Obama campaign?

I guess the price of gasoline increasing 83% since Obama took office is not enough, let take away the oil subsidies and see how much more the Obama administration can drive up the price at the pump.

Ah yes! Lets not mention the Dems that voted with the Republicans.
Let's make gas prices go even higher by ending the subsides that, BTW were given to the oil companies when gas was $1.00/gallon. Obama's Budget was overwhelmingly vote down by every single member of the HOUSE including every Democrats, that unemployment is still high, food prices have skyrocketed, housing prices have plummeted, and Obama has no idea, experience or knowledge on how to improve the economy. Instead he distracts and points to everyone but himself while offering ZERO SOLUTIONS. And the sheeple here just continue to blindly follow.

The Teabaggers/Repugs again have lied to the American people and accepted money from big oil lobbyist. They promised to go to Washington to help the people and not line their pockets with gold.

Do people who aren't rich and wealthy or powerful need any more evidence that the GOP wants nothing to do with them bettering their lives? The GOP represent the rich and powerful only. Why do people keep defending their voting/legislative behavior?

Which philosophy makes better sense for a stronger economy:

Keeping big business strong at the expense of the consumer

    or

Keep the consumer confidence strong at the expense of big business

To you economic geeks out there, keeping consumer confidence strong doesn't hurt big business since it will increase demand for big businesses' products and services; but legislating at the expense of the consumer will only lower demand, hurt big business, and hurt the economy.

Mr. Obama must be running scared. His lies and inaction are starting to catch up with him. Since sworn into office, he has been a do NOTHING president. Now, a little too late, he is trying to impress the American people with all kinds of gimmicks and tricks.

Mr. President, this time you you will NOT fool the American populace and you and your political cronies will NOT be able to BUY the 2012 elections.

Most of us are not as stupid as you and your lapdogs think we are. America stand up, be proud and unafraid!!!

I think the republicans want to keep the money flowing to the big oil companies so it will flow back to their pockets. You don't know how much it costs to keep their white hoods and gowns clean. It takes a alot of money to disenfranchise blacks, hispanics, and women. We ALL KNOW white men are the only ones who understands the need of this nation.

Well did anyone REALLY expect anything any different? I certainly hope everyone remembers this in November, but since it's the start of the new television season there will be plenty to distract them and make them forget how much the reichwing hates women, minorities, students, the elderly, post-born children, foreigners and anyone who isn't EXACTLY like them.

demwit, every drop of oil will be long gone by 2050 so your point is moot.

Good, they are following my advice. Put them on the record voting for big oil. Put them on the record voting against everything that majority of the American people want. Let The People express their will in November.

Funny how you Obama supporters fail to realize that there isn't a corporation or company out here that pays taxes. ALL taxes will be deferred to the consumer.....How's that going to help the poor or middle class??

    *************************************************************************************************************************

By NOT taking $$$ from poor & middle class taxpayers to line the pockets of the already super wealthy, the poor & middle class will have more $$$ in their pockets to cover the increased costs. Many of those poor & middle class don't own cars, but are forced to subsidize the most profitable industry in the world with their tax dollars. Why is that NOT a problem for Obama haters?

Oil companies already have different account and tax rules than other industries. Republicans made sure of that. This bill was an attempt to restore order and fairness.

A do nothing president? How bout ending the pointless Iraq war, finally finding bin laden and other big terrorists and ending them? Healthcare (popular or not, he did it)....

I think what you want to say is the republican controlled congress is the one that has done nothing!

Those on Capital Hill that opposed this measure have stocks, family businesses and other investments in the energy industry. A clear conflict of interest. While screaming that public welfare programs which DO help a lot of good people should be cut, they make sure that corporate welfare is a sacred cow.

Unfortunately there seems to be nothing too low for the GOP and rogue Democrats that opposed this much needed bill.

Just like the contraceptive issue, the gas price argument will also backfire against the GOP as soon as Rmoney starts to rake in big oil donations for his campaign.
