McDonnell's Va. ads are about his state, not himself, spokesman says

(CNN) – Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell is not running for re-election next year. He can't by law. Yet a glowing ad buy from his political action committee has hit the airwaves and sparked questions as to why he needs the publicity.

The ad, released last week, features a stream of Virginians pointing to the state's job growth and budget surplus. "Jobs and opportunity are thriving again," McDonnell said at the end of the spot. "Virginia is growing strong, and so is our future."

Romney: 'Even Jimmy Carter' would have ordered bin Laden attack

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama on Monday appeared to call out Mitt Romney over what he said about going after Osama bin Laden on the campaign trail four years ago, as opposed to on the eve of the first anniversary of the raid that killed the terrorist leader.

Asked about Romney's comments earlier in the day that the decision to go after bin Laden was a clear one and that "even Jimmy Carter would" have made the call, Obama referred to a difference between what Romney said during his 2008 presidential campaign and on the eve of the first anniversary of the attack.

Romney might convince me, Christie says

(CNN) – New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Monday said Romney "might be able to convince" him to serve as his No. 2 on the Republican presidential ticket.

"He might be able to convince me. He's a convincing guy, but I really love this job. I really want to stay in this job" Christie said during a high school visit in Plainsboro Township, New Jersey.

Obama calls out 'previous statements' about bin Laden

Washington (CNN) – In an apparent swipe at Mitt Romney, President Barack Obama interjected his voice Monday into the back and forth between his re-election campaign and that of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, ahead of Tuesday's anniversary of Osama bin Laden's death.

Obama was asked his thoughts about the killing during a press conference at the White House with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and seemingly capitalized on comments Romney made about the al Qaeda leader during his first presidential bid.

Romney 'of course' would have given bin Laden order

Portsmouth, New Hampshire (CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney asserted firmly Monday he would have given the order to kill Osama bin Laden if he were president, despite past comments in which he questioned the value of hunting down the former al Qaeda chief.

Romney implied the president's decision - which is being hailed by Obama's re-election team as a gutsy move - was an easy call.
