Santorum to resume campaigning Tuesday after daughter’s hospitalization

(CNN) – GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum will take a break from the campaign trail Monday as his 3-year-old daughter remains hospitalized, his campaign announced Saturday.

"Senator Santorum will not hold any public campaign events on Monday so that he and Karen can remain in the hospital with their daughter Bella," communications director Hogan Gidley said in a statement. "The entire Santorum family is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of prayers and support."

Santorum had not announced public events, but his campaign had previously said he would resume campaigning Monday after taking the Easter weekend off.

The campaign announced Friday that his daughter Isabella was hospitalized for the second time this year. She suffers from a chromosomal condition called Trisomy 18 and was last hospitalized in January for pneumonia.

His campaign on Saturday issued a schedule with events to be held Tuesday through Friday.

Pennsylvania is Santorum's home state and one of several to vote April 24. A win there is seen as critical for Santorum, especially as the delegate math is increasingly stacked against him.

Rick , stay home and be a father.

By staying on the campaign trail your only taking the heat off of Mr. Flip Flop.

Without Obamacare, other parents who can't afford hospitalization will just have to let their kids die and "make the best out of a bad situation" according to Santorum.

Maybe it is time for Little Ricky to get his nose out of everybody else's business and take care of his own family.

How can Politicians complain about OBAMA health care when taxpayers are paying for there family socialized medicine?

I hope the child is doing well, and is out of the hospital soon. That being said, I'd like to know what's so important about getting the republican nomination, that would keep a father campaigning and away from a child that needs his undivided attention? And don't hand out the reason as being the worlds coming to an end if he's not elected. I don't buy it. If anything, the world can do nicely without his input whatsoever.

As a dad, my heart goes out to Rick Santorum and his daughter. Elections don't matter...neither do politics....I pray that your daughter is okay.

Pretty obvious that Santorum is using his daughter to gain sympathy votes. All he did was use her as cover to take off the Easter weekend.

I think Tuesday would be a good day for him to announce the suspension of his campaign in order to take care of his family.

At this time, and putting all politics aside, I only have prayers and hopes for Bella and the Santorum family. Theirs is neither a for or against challenge, it is simply the life and family all of us face. To politicize it is evil, to celebrate life we cherish is essential.

We need quality healthcare for everybody, especially children. It's great the Santorum family can afford the best for their child.

Both Karen and Palin conceived at an age NOT ADVISED for a pregnancy and their babies have paid a terrible price. Both tragic births could have been avoided.

I like Rick, but am losing my patience with him. His only hope is a floor fight at the convention which will re-elect Obama. In an attempt to make this happen, he has hired a firm that is running his campaign here in Washington state. They are directing campaign chairs in each county to team up with Paul's campaign to produce unity slates that shut out Gingrich and Romney delegates from the state convention. This approach disenfranchises voters and gives more power to Paul's Libetarians who want to hijack the GOP. Simply stated, voters in my county see this as treason. This, combined with his current whiny desperation, is costing him dearly and will lose him Pennsylvania. On his current trajectory, his promising future as a national leader will end this month – shame.

Santorum is lucky he has such great health care coverage for his daughter, for whom I wish the best. I would also like to point out that if it weren't for medical science and research (done by people who probably have a firmer belief in science and evolution than a literal interpretation of the Bible's creation story, and many of whom don't share Santorum's narrow interpretation of religion), his daughter would probably not have survived as long as she has.

You know, folks who went to college – snobs.

can't wait til april 24th – so he can stay home w/ his wife, & take care of his little daughter. I think santorum is realizing it's a dog eat dog world out there, running for office.

In the new Testament, Jesus was adamant that being sick was not a punishment for sin, and gave the example of the Good Samaritan to show that he expected the well to help the sick unconditionally. But Christian Conservatives want to make US health care law the opposite of Cbristianity.

Not a fan, but I wish for a speedy recovery for his daughter. No child should have to suffer, and no parent should have to watch their child suffer. In most people it brings a type of humility in the face of something greater than they are.
