(CNN) - Republicans vying for their party's presidential nomination reacted Sunday to the death of CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace:
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich:
"Callista and I join our friend Chris Wallace and his family in mourning the passing of his father, Mike Wallace. Mike was a giant in news reporting and analysis. His investigative reporting was legendary, and his participation in 60 Minutes helped created a lasting institution. Mike Wallace's life created a legacy young reporters will study for years to come. The Wallace family is in our prayers this Easter Sunday."
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney:
"My experience with Mike Wallace - integrity, charm, character. A great one goes home."
It will probably be a very long time, if ever, before there is another journalist like Mike Wallace! He will be missed!
I wish his family strength to cope with their loss. He was a very good reporter and sought the truth so everyone could know it.
RIP dear friend
I loved watching Mike Wallace, he was one of the greatest and will be greatly missed.
Too bad Mike Wallace wasn't able to vet Barack Obama back in 2007, instead of all the boot licking Obama stooges in the media, who gave Barack a free ride ... and, even defended and excused his many blunders, and lack of transparency. I'm afraid that journalists with the stature and integrity of Mike Wallace are a thing of the past.
