Grassley calls Obama 'stupid' on Twitter

(CNN) - Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who has long been an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama, used scathing language in a tweet Saturday to condemn the president's remarks about the Supreme Court last week.

"Constituents askd why i am not outraged at PresO attack on supreme court independence. Bcause Am ppl r not stupid as this x prof of con law," Grassley wrote, using typical shorthand for the social networking website.

Responding to the message, Obama campaign senior strategist David Axelrod, himself a prolific tweeter who often engages critics of the president, blasted the Iowa senator.

"Heads up, Sen. Grassley. I think a 6-year-old hijacked your account and is sending out foolish Tweets just to embarrass you!" Axelrod wrote.

Obama last Monday was asked about measures his administration was taking in the event the United States Supreme Court determines his health care law is unconstitutional. The high court heard oral arguments on the law in late March. Obama said such a decision would be "unprecedented."

"I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," the president said.

This reminds me of high school when a D-student jock would try to call the Honor Roll chess captain "stupid".

Grassley said the people are smarter than the president. Meanwhile the subsidies allow him to retain his land while the SCOTUS allows seizure of land for development based on economics. How long befoe it decides anti-trust legislation and progressive taxes are wrong? It is a tough job but clearly political in nature.

Sen. Grassley – While I did not like the last president I respected the fact that he was the president and was incensed when someone threw a shoe at him. The fact that you cannot respect the office means you should not be in office yourself. Have some common decency and quit with the name calling. You are no longer in elementary school and need to grow up. If you cannot please do not push your values on the rest of us. You have embarrassed yourself, your family and more importantly your state. An overwhelming majority disagreed with you 4 years ago and voted into office someone they felt was bright enough to hold the office, by making your crassless remark you have implied that the majority of americans are stupid also. Well hopefully Iowans will show you how smart they are next time you are up for reelection and great rid of your bully attitude.

    Fair is Fair

I'm definitely no fan of Obama's politics, but he definitely IS NOT stupid. In consideration of his comments in regards to the SCOTUS, you could, however, make the case that he "acted stupidly".

I agree that President Obama would have been better served not to have commented as he did.

Iowa is not as close minded as you think here, like WI and other states the Tea Party hijacked the GOP in large numbers in 2010 because many Dems just stayed home. Well Democracy isn't free you have to vote ALL the time otherwise guys who represent the 20% the loved dubya when he existed will get their man in the office. We as dems are comfortable knowing who the person is here, that is found wanting in the intellectual category. No need to call names or get riled just another extremist idealog that we democrats LET get elected.

    Stay classy, Grassley.

Know that you are now officially part of the reason so many Americans disrespect the office of the Presidency.

Reading the hateful rhetoric from the Repubs really turns my stomach. It also invokes a fear deep inside me that I have never felt before. Here you have elected officials and let's not forget that soldier, that have zero respect for the sitting POTUS. Never in all of my years have I heard such hatred in my life. President Obama came into office trying to unify us as American people, but all the other side has done is show the entire world how prehistoric this country really is. Not only are the repubs trying to take rights away from women, if they could they would strip blacks of every right they possess. They hate the Potus for one reason and one reason only, the color of his skin. I think elected officials like this one and that marine, should be put on trial for HIGH TREASON!

    OBAMA 2012!

One might call President Obama many things, but stupid isn't one of them. All Grassley's tweet shows is that he is completely out of control emotionally. He needs to grow up.

Obama stupid? Compared to what, Sclia or Thomas? Who have lifetime appointments to impose their ignorance on the American people? I wish they could be bullied, but what could possibly have any impact on either of them?

I am proud to say that no Senator from Oregon would ever be as unethical, unrespectful and unprofessional as Senator Grassley from Iowa is. All Iowans should be ashamed and should remember this shame come November.

Its amazing..would this Senator dare call someone "stupid" if he did not have the internet to hide behind? I know if i were in the street and this Senator called me stupid, I would probably punch him in the nose. Maybe its time guys like this with no respect for the office were drummed out. No wonder nothing gets done in Washington. Should he be held liable for slander?

And, Grassley, thinks that Willard Romney is a charismatic dynamo.

I guess Grassley needs a fund raising shot in the arm. What does it say about his conservative supporters who reward that sort of behavior toward the POTUS? Republicans have turned into the party of complete and utter disgrace, having thrown any class they had left out with the bath water.

The disgraceful list just keeps growing: interrupting State of the Union speeches to call him a liar; questioning the president's birth certificate when it was examined and approved by the Republican-run Presidential Election Commission in 2008; calling the president a socialist or communist, which is unprecedented; fostering an atmosphere of general hate and distrust; this list just keeps growing.

    "Stupid"?

Ah yes, when all else fails, there is the GOP leadership that can be counted on to bring the national dialogue on a serious issue to a new pathetic name calling low. And this is the party that believes in restoring dignity to the oval office? Be serious gentleman, the days of angry old white men dictating to the country are over.

    Grassley is a real class act. He represents his party well: stupid, disrespectful, no connection to human issues, a protector of the rich, a no new tax ideologue. His and other Republican policies have brought this country to its knees. This moron should be swept from office.;

When someone disrespects someone else by calling him/her LIAR or STUPID in the public, that would show that person is in the bad mood of anger as a loser, but that also said very much about that person's characters sleeping deep inside leaning toward more evil side. A nice and professional person is always in a relax and confident to express his/her opinion in a logical manner.

Where was your righteous defense of the "Commander in Chief" when Harry Reid called President Bush a "loser" while speaking to a group of fourth grade students. I guess we only have to respect the office when it is held by a socialist liberal. Typical hypocrisy spewed forth by the lefties.
